Doctor of Leadership in Global Perspectives: Crafting Ministry in an Interconnected World

What’s left without Why?

Written by: on June 26, 2013

Simon Sinek closes his book Start with Why with the following statement that more or less summarizes everything contained in it.  “Leaders never start with what needs to be done.  Leaders start with WHY we need to do things. Leaders inspire action.” (Sinek 2009, 228) In other words, discovering our Why and passionately communicating it is the success of leadership that inspires others to action; the How of organization and the What of accomplishment then follow.   Sinek clearly illustrates how frequently leaders and organizations reverse this process and face adverse consequences.

My Why statement:

Equipping and empowering people for the fulfillment of God’s eternal purposes and the extension of His reign over all the earth.
