The concern for the current crisis within the Korean church is timely and important, but it leaves me with more questions than answers.  The band Wilco, in the song “You Never Know” make the observation that, “every generation thinks its the end of the world.”  Coming from a context like Spain, where we have moved beyond the crisis of the church into (maybe) a reboot phase, where in fact the church probably has to begin a new (in the case of the Catholics) or begin for the first time (in the case of Protestant evangelicals), I am left wondering if there is actually a life cycle of a church within a culture?  Or possibly, maybe the crisis is overplayed from the perspective of insiders?  Or maybe, as BJ mentioned, crisis is also an opportunity (same word in Korean)?  Possibly God is using the crisis to shake things up and do something new?  Possibly, even something new, that none of us will ever see in our lifetime?  Maybe this is all part of an ebb and flow.

We do know that God has the entire sweep of history in his hands, that he always leaves a remnant of his people, and that he is constantly calling us to personal renewal and transformation towards Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit.  These things we can always know.
