Attention counselors: For a social justice project, I have created a brief educational quiz focused on common misconceptions about schizophrenia – particularly around family roles and stigma in counseling practice.
The goal is to help increase awareness and promote more supportive, evidence-based perspectives in our work as future counselors.
If you have a moment, I would really appreciate your participation. Click here to take the quiz.
Thank you for your time and support!

What does it look like when two of America’s most brilliant and outspoken minds — one a conservative lion of natural law theory, the other a prophetic voice of the Black radical tradition — sit down not as opponents, but as brothers in Christ?
On Thursday, April 16, at 7 p.m., the university invites you to “Civic Friendship in a Polarized Age,” a rare and remarkable dialogue between Princeton’s Robert George and Union Seminary’s Cornel West.
Students have the option of receiving elective chapel credit for attending the event. Seating is limited inside Canyon Commons, so reserve your spot here.
Rooted not in the tired theater of political debate but in a shared Christian faith that calls all people to love their neighbors across every divide, this conversation will explore what genuine civic friendship demands of us in this fractured moment. Come expecting not a clash, but a covenant — a living demonstration that the gospel has always been, at its heart, a politics of reconciliation.

Thriving is about more than just a fleeting moment of happiness; it is the result of sustained engagement, strong relationships, and a sense of progress. Recent neuroscience research highlights that our brains actually signal when an experience is truly meaningful through the “Immersion network” – a state triggered by being fully present and emotionally connected.
To move from simply functioning to truly thriving, the goal is to experience about six of these meaningful moments per day. These aren’t major life milestones, but rather small, intentional “micro-moments” that last just a few minutes each.
So, how can you hit your “Six Moments” today? The most impactful experiences are often social and purposeful. Try to find time for a genuine connection with a colleague, offer a small act of kindness, celebrate a peer’s success, or simply find a few minutes of quiet presence in your work.
By prioritizing these brief, high-value interactions, you aren’t just improving your mood – you are building “emotional fitness” that helps you navigate stress and maintain high energy throughout the week. Let’s make it a goal to look for those six moments today!
To hit the goal of “six meaningful moments” a day, you don’t need to overhaul your schedule. Based on the neuroscience of immersion – which requires both attention and emotional connection – here are 20 practical moments you can practice at work.

The deadline is this Monday, March 23, for the George Fox faculty community to submit proposals for a nine-month-long teaching and learning project. The proposals can draw on any area of teaching and learning pedagogy that has widespread appeal to both graduate and undergraduate faculty from a range of disciplines.
The project should build a learning community around a particular topic, approach or methodology that is timely, relevant and evidence-based. This RFP is open to all full-time faculty.
Through this investment, we hope to cultivate a community of practice that prepares students spiritually, academically and professionally to think with clarity, act with integrity, and serve with passion.
- Timeline: The project should launch over the summer or early fall (no later than mid-September). We expect work to take place over fall and/or spring semester with a summative component occurring in late spring.
- Selection Criteria: The Office of Academic Affairs and Faculty Development will select ONE project that best supports missional and student-learning objectives, draws on evidence-based practices, and demonstrates the most feasibility.
- Award Amount: Up to $5,000
- Deadline: March 23
- Notification of award: March 30
Fill out the application and upload required document through this form.
If you have any questions, please email Faculty Development Office at facultydevelopment@georgefox.edu.

Join the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program for a “Diversity Dialogue” centered around veterans. The event will take place on Thursday, April 9, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. in Stevens 209.
We will be welcoming two licensed clinical social workers who work at the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) to provide information on how to support veterans as they learn about and access VA benefits.
We’ll also have a veteran share about their experience transitioning from the military into civilian life, and briefly discuss aspects of military culture.
Finally, part of our discussion will focus on resources at the VA, such as mental health support, supportive housing services, holistic health options, and the financial benefit COMPACT Act, which is for veterans in an acute suicidal crisis.
We’ll have plenty of information materials to share. We hope to see you there!

Spring break is next week, and the time off will be an excellent opportunity to jump ahead on your financial aid for the 2026-27 academic year! Take care of all your pesky to-do’s now, so you don’t have to worry about them this summer.
Complete the following tasks by May 1 to get an accurate picture of your expected balance for the fall 2026 term and make plans this summer for payment (due on Aug. 15):
- File your 2026-27 FAFSA or ORSAA as soon as possible if you want to access federal and/or state financial aid.
- Did you use loans this year? Are you planning to use them next year? You can accept, reduce, or decline your federal Stafford Loans today in MyGeorgeFox (If you change your mind, we can always adjust them later). Watch or read some instructions on how to do that.
- Considering a Parent PLUS Loan or a private loan? Compare the two options here and find more information on our website. Loan applications open May 1!
- Has your family’s financial situation changed since 2024? If you’ve had a change of circumstance, or if you had a Professional Judgment this year for special circumstances that will continue next year, request a PJ.
Contact us if you need any help! We’re located on the first floor of the Stevens Center, and we’re available Monday through Friday (drop-in hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.). You’re welcome to call, email, stop by, or schedule an appointment.
