Interested in hiring a personal trainer this summer?

Tuesday, May 6th, 2014

Are you interested in hiring a personal trainer this summer? I am a certified strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS) and have extensive experience with speed and strength training among athletes and the general population. I also work with football and track athletes as an assistant coach here at George Fox.

I currently have a flexible schedule that allows me to train in the morning, lunchtime or evening. For those of you who have kids who play football and/or track and field, I am also interested in offering private lessons for such athletes. I have experience in both sports as a player and coach.

Here are my rates:

  • One person: $20
  • 2-3 people: $15/person
  • 4-5 people: $10/person
  • 6+ people: $5/person

Sessions typically last one hour. If you or anyone you know is interested, please contact me ASAP so I can begin formulating a schedule. Additionally, if you have any questions, please feel free to ask. Thanks!

Please be aware of summer parking availability

Monday, May 5th, 2014

Staff, faculty, May Term students and summer student workers: Parking availability changed greatly once the spring semester ended, and security would like to inform you of those changes.

Construction is beginning immediately in the Pennington lot, and it is closed for the entire summer. Construction will also be happening in the Bauman lot, so please do not park in the cordoned-off areas in either one of those lots. Any car left in the Pennington lot will be towed at the owner’s expense tomorrow, as construction crews need to work where vehicles are parked.

May Term students can park in the Stevens/Hoover/Wood-Mar staff lots if there is room, but the visitor rows in all lots must be kept open for visitors to campus. For big campus-wide events like Genesis, staff and students will be asked to vacate those three lots, so please keep reading the Daily Bruin for parking availability updates.

As always, please contact security (ext. 2090) if you have any questions!

Emotional Intelligence seminar hosted at Portland Center May 28

Monday, May 5th, 2014

George Fox Evangelical Seminary invites you to consider a continuing education opportunity! All faculty, staff, administrators and student leaders are invited to an Emotional Intelligence (EI) seminar, led by Rich Handley, DBA, on Wednesday, May 28. The event is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Portland Center.

Rich’s presentation will offer a compelling accompaniment to the information shared by Jared Roth, who was hosted by the university’s College of Business on Friday, April 25, as part of its spring events series. Rich is the founder of EQ University.

The May 28 event includes morning snacks and lunch, EI printed interpretations and a Leadership Presence Handbook.

Benefits:

  • Consider your development as a leader through the EI framework
  • Receive an interpretation of your own emotional intelligence inventory
  • Apply the result of your EI inventory to the “leadership presence” framework
  • Create a plan for developing EI leadership qualities and boosting your work performance
  • Share a time of informal conversation and questions with Dr. Handley following his presentation
  • Pursue two private coaching sessions via phone or Skype with Dr. Handley

The seminar is limited to 25 participants, and the cost is just $200 per person. RSVP to Mindy Holland at mholland@georgefox.edu.

For your further consideration, here is a link to a description of EI, as well as an example of some of the reports that participants will have.

Annual Phase II event open for viewing starting Tuesday

Monday, May 5th, 2014

Plant Services is hosting its annual Phase II event this week. At the end of every school year, many students leave behind good usable items for those who need them. These items often include blankets, clothing, kitchen supplies, small appliances, radios, room decorations, little tables, etc.

In an effort to keep the dumpsters from overflowing and to be better stewards of our resources, Phase II was initiated. Many students have benefited from these free items. For example, summer work-study students often find items they need for apartment living.

Items will be open for viewing in the Macy and Sutton basements starting today (Tuesday) through Thursday, May 9, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., and on Friday, May 9, from 8 a.m. to noon.

After students and staff view these items, what remains will be donated to local charities.

Questions? Contact Debby O’Kelley at dokelley@georgefox.edu.
