All invited to discussion on topic ‘Would You Stand’ this Tuesday

Thursday, February 16th, 2017

Are you interested in engaging in dialogue about current issues in our society?

We are hosting an event, Matheteis, designed to provide space for faculty, staff/administrators and students to discuss difficult topics that lead to learning and understanding. Those who attend will have the opportunity to listen and learn from our four panelists as they answer a series of questions. Afterwards, attendees will have the chance to ask questions themselves and join the discussion.

Our first gathering for this semester’s series will be Tuesday, Feb. 21, at 8:30 p.m. in Canyon Commons, and the topic will be “Would You Stand.” We will be discussing the national anthem and activism. There is no cost to attend, and snacks will be provided. Elective chapel credit is offered for this event. This event is sponsored by the Intercultural Life office, Shalom and BSU.

Feel free to contact Mikaela Smith at smithm16@georgefox.edu if you have any questions.

Two campus buildings undergo name changes this spring

Tuesday, February 14th, 2017

Two of the university’s buildings have undergone name changes this spring, with Coffin Residence Hall and Gulley House being renamed Gulley Residence Hall and Hiebert House, respectively.

Gulley Hall is named in honor of Emmett W. Gulley, president of then-Pacific College from 1941 to 1948. The name change continues a trend of key campus residence halls being named in honor of former presidents (Brandt Hall, Le Shana Hall, Pennington Hall, etc.).

In conjunction with the new residence hall name, the Gulley House will now be known as Hiebert House, in honor of Roy Hiebert, affectionately known as “Grandpa Roy” on campus for four decades. He died in 2016 at the age of 92.
