Thursday, September 9th, 2010

The Center for Peace and Justice is sponsoring a visit to the community open house at Bilal Masjid Mosque in Beaverton this Sunday, Sept. 12, in remembrance of the events of 9/11/2001. We will be leaving from the Stevens Center parking lot at 10:30 a.m.

We are coming alongside one of our senior students, Lindley King, who originally voiced the idea of a George Fox visit after hearing the president of the Bilal Mosque speak at Senior Capstone on Monday. Please R.S.V.P. to peaceandjustice@georgefox.edu if you are interested in coming with us. Let us know if you are able to drive and take other students who will need rides or if you are someone who will need a ride.

Blessings,
The Center for Peace and Justice and the Center for Global Studies

Series of Kenn Willson piano recitals begins Monday

Thursday, September 9th, 2010

The university community is invited to a series of recitals performed by Kenn Willson (Performing Arts). Kenn will perform the music from his “Encounters with Beethoven” concert in order to make a recording on the university’s Imperial Bösendorfer piano.

Beginning this Monday, Sept. 13, he will play Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata, Sonata Op. 31 #3 and the Ecossaises Dances for three consecutive weeks (Sept. 13, 20 and 27). Each performance begins at 7:30 p.m. in Bauman Auditorium. Admission is free.

Audience members are invited to attend one, two or all three three performances, and at the end of each they will get to vote on the movement(s) they liked best from that evening’s performance. All the votes will be taken into consideration in the production of Kenn’s first piano solo CD. Those who attend any of the recitals also will be able to purchase the final CD at a reduced price.

ID Cards in Klages

Thursday, September 9th, 2010

Please remember that meal plan students are required to have their ID cards with them everytime they come to the dining room for meals.  This allows us to properly account for all the meals we serve.

Historically we’ve provided a “free pass” by issuing a 1 meal voucher for students who have forgotten their cards.  But, because we’ve had an overwhelming number of students over the past week not bringing their cards and several students claiming to be on a meal plan who are not being issued a voucher, effective next Monday, September 13th, all students not bringing their ID cards to meals will be asked to return to their rooms to get their cards before being allowed entrance to the dining room.

Thank you for understanding and please contact me if you have any questions.

Selah Women’s Conference

Thursday, September 9th, 2010

It’s time to simplify!  Come discover the biblical truth that less is more!

Full closets, packed garages, over-booked schedules, demanding relationships, to-do lists, and a constant stream of email messages and paperwork clamor for attention.  These trappings of life deplete our spirits because we were created by God to live with simplicity and order.

Imagine releasing your hold on all of the things you believe are “good” in order to embrace what God has said is “best.”  Living simply doesn’t require perfectionism…just a willingness to prioritize your highest values, and the courage to spend your time and resources intentionally.

Traditional Undergraduate students are FREE! For complete details and to register visit selah.georgefox.edu.

I am in need of Student volunteers for this event.  Free Selah t-shirt!  Please contact Amy Lorenz alorenz@georgefox.edu or 503-554-2134 if you are interested.
