Outdoors Club plans outing this Saturday night

The Outdoors Club will meet in the Bruin Den at 8:30 p.m. this Saturday, Sept. 18, to head to “The Circuit”, a bouldering gym, so no ropes are needed.

Missionary practitioners with Word Made Flesh speak Thursday

David and Luneta Chronic work as Africa/Europe regional directors for Word Made Flesh, a nonprofit organization committed to serving Jesus amongst the poorest of the poor. The Chronics will speak from 7:30 to 9 p.m. in the Quaker Heritage Room, located upstairs in the library.

FLOORmation classes (for SLA’s)

FLOORmation” classes are for the training and accountability of Spiritual Life Assistants (SLA’s) who support the efforts of Res Life by working towards intentional, spiritual community formation and spiritual friendships in their respective living area, athletic team, or other areas of campus life.
Participants in the SLA program obtain .5 SpiL credit for every FLOORmation class attended and .5 SpiL credit for every “Apprentice Group” opportunity they facilitate for their living area.

The classes take place on the following Fridays: 9/17, 10/01, 10/15, 10/29, 11/12, & 12/10 at 10:40 – 11:30am in Hoover 102

Two Keys to Effective Writing: Thesis Statements and Organization

College teachers will expect your papers to contain creative ideas and deep insights, but they also expect them to be presented in an easy-to-follow format. This session will cover two keys to successful college writing: a clear thesis that unifies the paper and a structure that supports and clarifies that thesis. A checklist will be presented that allows you to evaluate your own paper before turning it in to your teacher.

Oregon artists featured in upcoming Minthorne exhibit

The Department of Visual Arts is hosting an exhibit, “Tales From the Back Porch,” featuring the mixed-media paintings of Oregon artists Paula Portinga Booth and Corrine Loomis Dietz. The exhibit begins with an opening reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 16, in the Minthorne Gallery. An artists’ talk is scheduled prior to the reception at 4:30 p.m.

Booth is a multimedia artist from Salem and Dietz has gained recognition as a figurative artist and educator. Their work will be on display through Oct. 21.

9/11 rememberance scheduled at Bilal Mosque Sunday

The Center for Peace and Justice is sponsoring a visit to the community open house at Bilal Masjid Mosque in Beaverton this Sunday, Sept. 12, in remembrance of the events of 9/11/2001. We will be leaving from the Stevens Center parking lot at 10:30 a.m.

We are coming alongside one of our senior students, Lindley King, who originally voiced the idea of a George Fox visit after hearing the president of the Bilal Mosque speak at Senior Capstone on Monday. Let us know if you are able to drive and take other students who will need rides or if you are someone who will need a ride.
