The Daily Bruin

This 2018 daily Advent devotional is a gift to the George Fox community, prayerfully written by George Fox undergraduate students to encourage our community to enjoy the presence of God in the weeks leading up to Christmas. The season of Advent begins this Sunday, Dec. 2.

It is with joy that the Office for Spiritual Life invites the George Fox community to celebrate Christmas together at our annual Christmas Chapel on Tuesday, Dec. 4, from 10:40 to 11:50 a.m. in Bauman Auditorium.

The university choir and orchestra will lead us in worship through Christmas music, and President Robin Baker will share a reflection on Scripture. Join us for this festive community celebration of the birth of Jesus, the incarnation of the Living God.

All are welcome!

Making plans to attend the university’s Christmas Concert Dec. 7, 8 or 9? If so, we strongly urge you to get your tickets in advance if you haven’t done so already. We are expecting long lines, particularly on Friday night (“Student Night”).

The event begins at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday in Bauman Auditorium. You can select your concert tickets online at this link. Students are entitled to a complimentary ticket for Friday night, while employees are allotted two free tickets for Sunday’s matinee performance or one free ticket for Friday or Saturday night.

All university offices on the Newberg campus and at the Portland Center will be closed Thursday and Friday, Nov. 22-23, for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Libraries on the Newberg and Portland campuses will also be closed those two days, as will the Bruin Store. The 24/7 space at the Murdock Library will be open during the closure (5 p.m. Wednesday through 6 p.m. Sunday). The Murdock Library will reopen fully from 6 to 10 p.m. Sunday.

The holidays are here … and the Finance Department would like to bring to your attention the schedule for processing check requests to accommodate the short holiday weeks.

This Thanksgiving, we are collecting gift cards and monetary donations as an offering of love and support for our community members who have experienced devastation.

President Robin and Ruth Baker cordially invite employees to celebrate together the great mystery of Christ the Lord at the Christmas Concert this Sunday, Dec. 9, at 2:30 p.m. in Bauman Auditorium.

Employees are entitled to two complimentary tickets for Sunday’s matinee or a single ticket for any of the other performances (on Dec. 7 or Dec. 8). Following the concert on Sunday, employees are invited to a Christmas open house at the president’s home from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at 701 E. Franklin St. in Newberg.

You can select your concert tickets online at this link (be sure to select “GFU Employee” in the drop-down menu on the page that pops up after making your seat selection). If selecting your complimentary seats for Sunday, you may disregard the note that states employees are only entitled to one ticket per event; however, you must still select “Okay, I will bring my ID to the door” in the drop-down menu.

We currently have multiple full-time and part-time positions open in Campus Public Safety and need your help finding qualified candidates.

The lead campus safety officer is a full-time evening supervisory position. In addition, we have multiple part-time security professional positions that are available for those wanting flexibility in their schedule.

If you know of anyone who might have interest, we would greatly appreciate if you would do two things. First, let them know about the position and about how great it is to work at George Fox. Second, please pass their name along to Ed Gierok, director of Campus Public Safety, so he can follow up with them and answer any questions they might have. The Office of Marketing Communications is now accepting orders for university Christmas cards. You can see this year’s card here.
