Early in each semester, IT hides courses from the previous semester. IT will complete this work tomorrow (Wednesday). We anticipate circumstances in which students might need to keep access to 2019 fall course sites.

The university’s Department of Biology and Chemistry invites you to join us for the 10th annual Dalton Lecture at 7:30 p.m. tonight (Monday) in Bauman Auditorium. Admission is free.

The presentation, titled “The True Story of Science and Faith,” will be delivered by Ian Hutchinson, a professor of nuclear science and engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He will discuss how the widely presumed “warfare myth” that science and religion are at odds is a distortion of both science and faith.

In truth, Hutchinson argues, their relationship is a complex story that ultimately leads to the affirmation that God is revealed both in the “Book of His Word” (the Bible) and the “Book of His Works” (nature).

The lecture is one of two Hutchinson will present on campus. He will also speak at 3 p.m. today on “Star Power! Scientific Frontiers of Fusion Energy” in Bauman Auditorium.

A training session for Cascade Server, the system used to edit the university website, will be offered on Wednesday, Feb. 5, from 2 to 4 p.m.

This basic-level session is tailored for editors who have either not edited the website before or need a refresher on using the software. The session will be held in the library basement computer lab (MLRC 020). Sign up here.

We are excited to expand our medical education programs with the launch of a physician assistant (PA) program in 2021. Currently, we are seeking health care partners to do PA clerkships for our students, which need to be identified by March to meet national program accreditation requirements. You have a chance to be a part of this wonderful initiative!

PAs offer valuable and versatile medical skills and serve in a wide variety of roles, from primary care to emergency medicine to behavioral health. Our PA program will give students critical hands-on training through clerkships at hospitals and clinics across Oregon and beyond.

The concept of Universal Design involves creating environments that maximize benefit for the broadest possible audience. After an introduction to Universal Design, Smith will lead participants in considering how we might elevate learning outcomes for an increasingly anxious and depressed student population.

Both classical and familiar tunes will fill Bauman Auditorium when a Monster Piano Concert takes the stage for the 14th annual Bösendorfer Concert Series at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 6.

The evening will feature 18 performers playing eight pianos, on many occasions simultaneously, and the university’s Rodgers organ. Those performing include the University Keyboard Ensemble, alumni, and students from professor Kenn Willson’s piano studio. Some selections will feature as many as 16 pianists playing at one time.

The program will feature Bach’s Concerto for 3 Pianos, Mozart’s Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, and Beethoven’s 3 Marches as a tribute to the 250th anniversary of the composer’s birth. Also included will be Beethoven’s Rondo Capriccioso, featuring three performers at each piano.

The evening will also feature well-known tunes such as Skip to My Lou, Stars Stripes Forever, two modern praise songs, and a hymn in which the audience will be encouraged to join in singing, accompanied by eight pianos and the organ.

Students and employees are entitled to one complimentary ticket. Additional tickets may be purchased for $12 (general admission), $8 (seniors and alumni) and $6 (students and children under 12). They may be purchased online at this link or by calling 503-554-3844.
