You are invited to join us tonight (Tuesday) for a human trafficking awareness event hosted by the university’s Social Work Club.

Come hear from Door to Grace, a nonprofit organization that was founded as a door to freedom for girls forced into the sex trade. We are excited to host multiple guest speakers to address issues of prevention, rescue and action.

Peer Advisor Application Deadline

The Peer Advisor application deadline has been extended to Monday, March 3, at 5 p.m. Please consider applying for this fun role next year! We are looking for individuals who would like to use their experience to help new students transition well to Fox. More information can be found here.

If you are interested in being a Welcome Weekend Coordinator, applications will be due Feb. 24! We are looking for a small group of talented individuals to pull off big events! If you are detail oriented, hospitality focused, and like to think outside of the box, this might be the job for you! This is potentially a full-time job over the summer. Farewell party for Kayin Griffith set for Feb. 27

Kayin, assistant director of SpIL programs, has accepted an exciting new opportunity as the director of advocacy and development for the organization Word Made Flesh. She will be using her skills and talents to develop and implement new strategies for WMF’s fund development as well as helping to connect people to the WMF mission.

While the George Fox community will dearly miss Kayin, we are so excited for this new chapter in her life! Join us as we celebrate her and bless her new endeavors!

Master Chorus still seeking out members for April 25 concert

Community members are encouraged to join the George Fox University Master Chorus at it continues Tuesday rehearsals in preparation for an April 25 performance of John Rutter’s composition Mass of the Children.

On that evening, Master Chorus members will join with the university’s Concert Choir, Women’s Chorale, select Women’s Ensemble from Newberg High School, and the Chehalem Symphony Orchestra for a 7:30 p.m. performance in Bauman Auditorium.

Rehearsals will be every Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in Ross 208 (choir room). Participants are expected to have previous choir experience, average to above-average sight reading skills and the ability to attend rehearsals. There is no audition or cost, and director’s permission is required. Music will be supplied by the university.

His Mansion Ministries director speaks on campus today

The university community is invited to come hear Dr. Michael Tso, director of training at His Mansion Ministries in New Hampshire, tonight (Monday).

Dr. Tso will present twice on campus. His first presentation, entitled “Hope for the Hopeless: Does Psychology, Science and/or Faith Provide Substantive Hope for Hurting People?,” is scheduled from 11:40 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Cap and Gown Room B & C.

His second talk is titled “Wounded People with Wounded Healers: How to Journey with Strugglers (Addiction/Trauma/Mental Health) Faithfully and Honestly?” and will be presented from 3:40 to 5 p.m. in Hoover 103.

Students interested in an eight-week summer internship, a semester internship, or post-graduate employment with His Mansion Ministries are encouraged to attend one of the sessions. Dr. Tso is also well-connected with a number of other potential medical, mental health and ministry setting internships around the U.S.

His Mansion Ministries is a faith-based residential recovery community serving adults ages 18-35 struggling with substance abuse, sexual addictions, eating disorders and mental health issues.

Test-taking workshop offered this Friday in EHS 125

Do tests drive you crazy? You read the book, did the assignments, studied the night before, and still didn’t do as well as you wanted on your test. What else can you do? This Friday, Feb. 21, the Academic Resource Center will host a session, “How to Get A’s on All Your Tests (or at Least Become a Better Test-Taker),” from 10:40 to 11:30 a.m. in EHS 125.

The session was originally scheduled for earlier this month but had to be rescheduled because of our snow day on Feb. 7.

Rick Muthiah, associate director of learning support services, will cover several strategies for improving performance on tests.

Denny Lawrence speaks in International Chapel this morning

James Project partners with Love INC on Saturday

James Project, our campus community service outreach ministry, will be partnering with Love INC this Saturday, Feb. 15, to serve some our neighbors in Newberg. We need willing volunteers to join in and help with yard work and some inside cleaning and organizing at the homes we will be connecting with.

Love INC (In the Name of Christ) is an awesome local organization that recruits willing volunteers to meet the needs of those in our community.

We’ll be meeting in the Outreach Ministries office at 8:30 a.m. and will serve from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Prodigal Daughter Lyfe Group meets tonight

The group consists of daughters gathering to learn how we can impact the community through spiritual formations of our hearts. Pray and see if God is calling you NOT to join.

We will all walk through the book Undaunted by Christine Caine. Christine offers life-transforming insights about not only how to overcome the trials, wrong turns, and often painful circumstances we all experience, but also how to grow from those experiences and be equipped and empowered to help others.

Register for writer’s conference by Friday to secure lower rate

Don’t forget to register for the Faith and Culture Writers Conference taking place on the Newberg campus Friday and Saturday, March 7-8. A number of well-known writers will be on campus, including Sarah Bessey, Tony Kriz, Sarah Thebarge and Deidra Riggs, among others.

The current adult registration price of $75 per person is good through this Friday, Feb. 14. After that, the price increases to $85 (Feb. 15 through March 6) and $95 (March 7-8). Kenn Willson performs works of Beethoven in Bauman

The works of Beethoven will be performed on the George Fox stage when Bösendorfer Educational Artist Kenn Willson presents his “Encounters with Beethoven” concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, in Bauman Auditorium.

Employees and students are entitled to one complimentary ticket each. They can be picked up in the Box Office located in the Pennington House. Additional tickets may be purchased on this page.

Willson will perform German Dance #1, Sonata Op. 31 #3, Sonata Op. 27 #2 (“Moonlight”) and Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee (Tune: Ode to Joy). He has traveled to Vienna, Austria, and to the Piano Academy in Recanati, Italy, to perform. He is also known throughout the region for his “Encounters with Beethoven” performances. In 2005, Willson was named a Bösendorfer Educational Artist by the Viennese Piano Manufacturing Company.

The Bösendorfer Concert Series, sponsored by the music department, has brought in world-renowned classical pianists since its inception in 2007. Past performers have included Baruch Meir, Gianluca Luisi of Italy and Valentina Lisitsa of Ukraine.
