All four baseball games this weekend will be played at Concordia in Portland. Saturday’s two games were originally scheduled for Morse Field in Newberg but have been moved to Concordia’s artificial turf field due to wet conditions at Morse. George Fox will be providing stats for the Friday and Sunday games, though Friday is a neutral-site game and Sunday is an away game.

Sunday’s women’s tennis match is a neutral-site contest with George Fox acting as the host team.

Tuesday’s basketball games were rescheduled from Feb. 8 due to snow. Special promotions around the games will include National Girls and Women in Sports Day; “Pink Zone” for breast cancer awareness and research; recognition of senior women student-athletes, trainers, dancers and cheerleaders; and honoring of the 2012-13 Northwest Conference women’s championship teams in golf and track and field.

Study Abroad informational meeting is tonight

Valentine’s Day candy packages are for sale

Thank you to everyone who order a Valentine’s candy package from us last week. Due to the snow last Thursday and Friday, we had to cut our selling short.

If you missed out on your chance to buy a candy package, we have good news! We will be accepting orders for packages in the Bruin Den until Friday, Feb. 14, at 1 p.m. We will also be in the Den on Thursday, Feb. 13, between noon and 1 p.m., so feel free to stop by if you don’t want to pre-order through email. Like before, supplies are limited so order as soon as you can!

To reiterate, the packages contain a variety of sweets, including chocolates, lollipops and gummy hearts. These Valentine packages will only cost you $1.50. Valentine’s Day is only a couples days away. Don’t be caught off guard!

This is your chance to share the love with friends, family members, and significant others while supporting the George Fox University V.C.R team in the Entrepreneurship 300 class.

Seeking dancers for Feb. 26 chapel

On Wednesday, Feb. 26, spiritual life wants to create an upbeat, street-like setting as people enter into evening chapel, between 7:20 and 7:30 p.m.

That’s where you come in. If you dance (break dance, hip-hop dance, etc.), we want you to join in a dance circle/dance-off. We will have speakers available if you have specific music you want to dance to. You are also welcome to find someone you know who can beatbox.

Director of His Mansion Ministries speaks on campus Monday

The university community is invited to come hear Dr. Michael Tso, director of training at His Mansion Ministries in New Hampshire, on Monday, Feb. 17.

Dr. Tso will present twice on campus. His first presentation, entitled “Hope for the Hopeless: Does Psychology, Science and/or Faith Provide Substantive Hope for Hurting People?,” is scheduled from 11:40 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Cap and Gown Room B & C.

His second talk is titled “Wounded People with Wounded Healers: How to Journey with Strugglers (Addiction/Trauma/Mental Health) Faithfully and Honestly?” and will be presented from 3:40 to 5 p.m. in Hoover 103.

Students interested in internships with His Mansion Ministries are encouraged to attend one or both sessions to learn more about an eight-week summer internship or a semester internship. Dr. Tso is also well-connected with a number of other potential medical, mental health and ministry setting internships around the U.S. that students may find interesting.

His Mansion Ministries is a faith-based residential recovery community serving adults ages 18-35 struggling with substance abuse, sexual addictions, eating disorders and mental health issues.

‘Gender justice’ among topics discussed in webcast today

The Center For Peace and Justice invites you to join us as we listen to a live video webcast hosted by Jim Wallis, president of Sojourners, and Dr. Michelle Gonzalez, author of Sojourners‘ January cover story “Breaking the Habit of Machismo.” We will gather from 9 to 10 a.m. today (Wednesday) on the third floor of the Stevens Center to listen.

Deadlines for Off-Campus Housing Requests

Tuesday, February 11th, 2014

Current students who would like to be considered for approval to live off-campus prior to Housing Selection will need to submit a Residency Exemption Request before 5 p.m. on Monday, March 3. The ‘Residency Exemption Request” forms can be picked up in the student life office on the third floor of the Stevens Center.

Please note that requests submitted after that date will be reviewed at the end of each month beginning in April. The last day to submit an Exemption Request for fall 2014 is May 31, 2014. Requests submitted after that time will not be considered.

The deadline to submit an off-campus request for extreme financial hardship is also Friday, May 31. Requests based on finances should be presented to Student Financial Services.

Students who are placed in housing and eligible to live off-campus have until Wednesday, July 31, to notify the Housing Department of their intent to live off-campus.

Registration closes today for Sports and Entertainment Fair

Registration for the Sports and Entertainment Career and Internship Fair ends today (Wednesday) at 5 p.m.! Register on Bruin Careers. If paying by cash or check, please bring payment to the IDEA Center (first floor of Stevens). You may also pay by credit card online. Payment is required to secure your registration and ticket.

The event is set for Wednesday, Feb. 19, at the Moda Center in Portland.

Here is the schedule:

  • 3:30 p.m. – Panel Discussion
  • 4 p.m. – Fair
  • 7 p.m. – Trail Blazers vs. Spurs

Cost is $20 (includes admission to the fair, transportation and ticket to the game).

Lunar New Year Celebration rescheduled for Saturday

The Lunar New Year Celebration has been rescheduled for Saturday, Feb. 15, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the west end of the Klages Dining Room.

We hope those who already purchased tickets are not inconvenienced by this rescheduling. However, if you cannot come on Saturday, please come by the International Center/Cultural House before Wednesday at noon and we will refund your ticket. We cannot honor any refunds after this deadline.

For those who would like to still buy a ticket, come to the International Center/Cultural House between now and Wednesday at noon to get your ticket. Cost is $5.

Free accountability and encouragement group meets

Spring is coming and it’s time to come out of hibernation and get healthy! A group will be meeting for accountability and encouragement to do just that.

Based on The Daniel Plan book by Rick Warren, Daniel Amen and Mark Hyman, the group will meet to “love each other into good health!” Come join us!

We’ll meet each Wednesday beginning tomorrow (Feb. 12) through the end of May, then assess what we’ll do in the summer. We’ll be in Wheeler (WSC 206) and meet from noon to 1 p.m. There is no charge to participate.

Learn more about fight against human trafficking on Feb. 18

We invite you to join us for an up-close encounter with professionals who are involved in fighting against human trafficking. We will be meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, in Hoover 105.

The social work club has been working with Door to Grace, a nonprofit agency in Portland, to coordinate this event, aimed at education and awareness on the issue of human sex trafficking in Portland. Guest speakers from several agencies (Portland Police Department, International Teams and Door to Grace) will address issues of prevention, rescue and action.
