Run for Reading is today!

Come out and enjoy the sun while running for a good cause! Run for Reading is a charity run to support the local elementary schools and raise money for Spanish children’s books. Come to Renne Park in Newberg next to Edwards Elementary today (Saturday) between 10 a.m. and noon.

The cost is $5 for entry, and all proceeds benefit the SMART reading program and elementary schools in Newberg. Hope to see you all there!

Movie ‘The Gospel of John’ shown Sunday night

Glow for Uganda 5K Run/Walk set for May 9

Next month the university’s doctor of physical therapy program is hosting a 5K neon night run/walk fundraiser to support its medical service trip this June. All proceeds from the race will go toward supporting 12 PT students to deliver physical therapy to under-served children and adults in Uganda.

The run will start at 8:30 p.m. (check-in is at 7:30 p.m.) on Saturday, May 9, in the Villa Academic Complex parking lot. The $25 registration fee includes a neon T-shirt, glow sticks, body glow paint and use of the black-light photo booth. We’ll also give out prizes for first place and best costume of the night!

Movie night with chapel credit and free food

Need more chapel credit and like free food? The Biblical Basis for Peacemaking class is hosting a movie night at 9 p.m. in EHS 102 tonight (Friday)! The movie Of Gods and Men (with a rating of 93% on Rotten Tomatoes!) will be shown, followed by a discussion on peace and nonviolence. Free pizza and drinks will be provided, and chapel credit is available!

Chapel credit available at Community Garden work day tomorrow

We need students and faculty to join in this week’s Community Garden work party tomorrow (Saturday), as we could use the extra help to get some garden beds built up before the school year ends. We’ll be working from 1 to 3 p.m.

We will also be discussing the future plan of the garden and what will happen this summer. Come join for the whole thing or just stop by! We will be providing lemonade and chapel credit! Meet outside of Hoover at 12:50 p.m. if you need a ride, or want to follow us out there. The garden is located near the new soccer field and Joan Austin Elementary School.

Hillsboro’s mayor speaks at MBA speaker series event May 22

Fox Film Festival opens tonight

Join us at the 17th Annual Fox Film Festival, a two-day screening event showcasing films and projects created by cinema and media communication students!

The Cameo screening event takes place at 4:30 p.m. tonight (Friday) at the Cameo Theatre in downtown Newberg. Tickets for the Cameo screening are one ticket for $4 and two for $6, which are available for purchase in Minthorn 205 or at the door of the event.

The Bauman screening event takes place at 6 p.m. tomorrow (Saturday) in Bauman Auditorium, and admission is free! Different films will be screening each night, so join us on both nights! Additionally, guests are welcome to the awards ceremony that will take place after the Bauman screening at 8:30 p.m. in the Greenroom.
