Student employees: A few reminders before you go

Wednesday, April 27th, 2016

Before saying your goodbyes and hitting the highway there are a few payroll reminders. First, please be sure to lock your time sheets. This will prevent any hold on your paycheck for a signature.

Second, be sure your address is up to date with mail services so your paycheck can find you. Another great option is to set up direct deposit before you go, so your pay won’t be delayed by the mail. The direct deposit form is available at this link.

Questions? Contact Kasondra Silva in HR at 503-554-2184.

Volunteers still needed for OSAA choir competition May 5-7

Tuesday, April 26th, 2016

Do you like free lunch? Are you a nice person? Do you like interacting with people? If any of these apply to you, we have a job for you!

Each year, the music department hosts the OSAA High School State Choir Competition, and we are currently needing volunteers to help keep the competition running smoothly. Jobs include door monitors, guides and assistants for some of the judges.

The competition is May 5-7, which is the Thursday, Friday and Saturday the week after graduation. Since it’s after school, this would be most ideal for students staying on campus for May Term or living nearby for the summer. Volunteers are needed all three days, and shifts go from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., from noon to 5 p.m., or all day.

Please contact Natalie Marquette at nmarquette12@georgefox.edu if you are interested!

Libraries, IT now accepting debit/credit cards for purchases

Tuesday, April 26th, 2016

The MLRC and Portland Center libraries are now accepting debit and credit cards to purchase print cards. No more digging in your pockets or wallet for that extra change to purchase a print card. You can now purchase the print card you need with your debit/credit card.

The IT Service Desk not only accepts your debit or credit card, but Apple and Android Pay is also available. So if you need a new ID card, power adapter or to pay for those unexpected repair parts you will no longer need to provide cash or a check. Just put it on the card.

We will continue to accept cash and checks through June 30, 2016. Beginning July 1, 2016, these locations will only accept your electronic forms payment (debit/credit/touch pay), and ID cards will no longer be charged to student accounts.

It’s time for Phase II again

Monday, April 25th, 2016

At the end of every school year many students have good reusable items that they do not want to take home over the summer, including blankets, clothing, kitchen supplies, small appliances, radios, room decorations, furniture, etc.

In an effort to keep the dumpsters from overflowing and to be better stewards of the resources, Phase II was initiated. We are happy to receive reusable items that students do not want to take home starting on April 22 and going through May 2 at 4 p.m.

The items gathered are sorted and made available to summer students and staff, with the remainder of the items being given to different organizations in the local area, such as Rescue Mission, Unwed Mothers Homes, Love Inc., and Goodwill.

Barrels will be placed in or near central living areas …

  • On the porches or patios of Weesner, Riley, Chapman, Hoskins, Armstrong, Campbell, Fulton St., Villa Rd., Gail, Kershner, Barclay and Wilder houses
  • In the dorm lobbies of Edwards, Pennington, Le Shana, Brandt, Coffin, Hobson, Macy and Sutton
  • Outside of the first floor of Beebe, Carey and Willcuts
  • Near Woolman 2-3, Winters 201-2 and Newlin apartments
  • In Lewis and Weesner Village laundry rooms

Please look for and use these barrels as you prepare to leave at the end of school.

  • Please do not place trash in the barrels labeled “Phase II.”
  • Please do not donate undergarments, socks, damaged or soiled items
  • Do not donate large appliances or furniture such as couches, arm chairs and beds
  • Do not place food or chemicals in the barrels. Place these items in a box or bag next to the barrels.

There are large drop boxes for your trash located strategically on campus. By law, computers, monitors and TVs cannot go into the trash. They can be place beside the barrels. Please note if it is broken.

Questions? Contact Dwayne Astleford (dastlefo@georgefox.edu).

Have a great summer and may the Lord bless you as you go!

Instructions for leaving cars and bikes on campus during May Term and summer

Monday, April 25th, 2016

Students: As a rule, there are to be no cars left on campus during the summer months except for these categories: Juniors Abroad participants, May Serve participants and international students. All vehicles left on campus must have the keys left with security, along with a name and number of a local contact in case of incident.

George Fox is not responsible for any car left on campus and is not liable in case of damage or theft. Any car left on campus without first arranging with security and leaving the key with security is subject to tow. Please first try to find someone off campus to leave your vehicle with so it can be watched and turned on periodically to avoid a dead battery.

If a vehicle is left on campus, security will tell you where to park it once your key has been left with them, and there should be nothing left in your car to tempt potential thieves.

Questions? Out of the box situation? Contact security during business hours at 503-554-2090 or e-mail Nadine Kincaid at nkincaid@georgefox.edu.
