Due to a family emergency, special guest John Foubert will be unable to speak on the Newberg campus today (Tuesday) and tomorrow (Wednesday) as originally scheduled. Foubert, a professor of higher education and student affairs administration at Oklahoma State University, was to speak on the important topic of ending sexual violence.
Foubert expressed his regrets for being unable to speak to the George Fox community at this time. The university plans to reschedule his visit on a future date to be determined.

The university community is invited to chapel today (Tuesday) as alumnus actor Rich Swingle (class of 1991) presents a one-man program, “Big Fish, Little Worm,” at 10:50 a.m. in Bauman Auditorium. Tomorrow night in Vespers, we’ll take a look at Romans 5 beginning at 7 p.m. in Bauman.
Looking ahead, next week we’ll host an info meeting about upcoming SpIL trips over the winter, spring and summer breaks. If you’re interested in any of these trips, join us Wednesday, Oct. 12, right after Vespers in Bauman.

Foubert, a professor of higher education and student affairs administration at Oklahoma State University, will be on campus Tuesday, Oct. 4, and Wednesday, Oct. 5. You won’t want to miss what he has to say on these important topics (elective chapel credit is available as well!).

He has testified before Congress and briefed the White House and the Pentagon about how to end sexual violence.

If you are a global business major, an accounting major or anyone else interested in the opportunity to study business in international settings, come to an International Business Institute (IBI) info meeting from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, in Hoover 102.
IBI is designed with business in mind for a unique study abroad experience. The 10-week program incorporates the international dimensions of business and culture by integrating academic study with international field experience. It includes periods of residence in key locations as well as coordinated visits and presentations in the major political and economic centers of Russia, The European Union, India and China.

Join us tonight (Monday) for an Art Talk lecture featuring Althea Murphy Price, a sculptor and printmaker. She received her Master of Arts in printmaking and painting from Purdue University and a Master of Fine Arts in printmaking from the Tyler School of Art at Temple University in Philadelphia.
She has presented her work internationally, sharing her unique method of using synthetic hair as her medium to sculpt and make prints that comment on a personal and cultural history of hair.

Doctor of physical therapy students are hosting a hair-raising “The Running Dead” 5K walk/run on Saturday, Oct. 29, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Chased by zombies through a forested trail, runners will attempt to beat the odds of survival. Costumes of all kinds (not just zombies) are encouraged, and a prize will be awarded for best costume.

Join us for the sixth Liberal Arts and Critical Issues presentation of the semester tonight (Monday), when Natasha Haunsperger, an officer in the Portland Police Department, speaks on the topic “Transcending Exile” in Hoover 105. The same presentation will be made from 5 to 6 p.m. and from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Haunsperger will speak about the Portland police work to holistically engage with Muslim refugee and immigrant communities while assisting with the navigation of the criminal justice system.

The School of Nursing and the School of Social Work will be holding a joint simulation for our senior students to “walk a mile” in the shoes of those facing poverty. For this simulation to be successful, we are in need of volunteers to play the role of the community agencies the students will interact with.
The simulation will be held Wednesday, Oct. 12, from 12:30 to 4 p.m. and again on Wednesday, Oct. 19, in the Canyon Commons 101 and 102. If you are interested in volunteering on one or both days or have questions, please contact Molly Murphy at mmurphy@georgefox.edu or 503-554-2963.
