Come listen to a panel of eight students from a wide variety of majors who are doing or have recently done an internship! On Monday, Nov. 27, in Canyon Commons, panelists will share their experiences and insights about the opportunities internships offer and give you tips on how to land your own. The session runs from noon to 12:50 p.m.

Employers include the University of Oregon, Cambia Health, Visionary Films, Boeing, Multnomah County, the Campbell Foundation, the Charles Koch Institute, and Providence Health.

Help parents in need in our community this Christmas by being a part of a December diaper drive hosted by the Students for Life Club! Bring some diapers back from Thanksgiving break to donate. We will have boxes set out for the donations in the Bruin Den and Bridge Café starting Friday, Dec. 1, until the beginning of finals week.

All donations will be given to the Pregnancy Counseling and Information Center right here in Newberg. Newberg PCIC is in need of bigger diaper sizes (sizes 3-5), but any diapers will be a blessing.

There is a new exhibit of artifacts from the George Fox University museum collection in the Canyon Commons display cases. This exhibit focuses on what students and employees did during their leisure time in the early 20th century.

The physical therapy department is looking for volunteers to participate in a lab session on the lower extremities. If you have a problem with your hip, knee, ankle or foot, our lab is the place to be! Our doctor of physical therapy second-year students, along with faculty members, will be performing examinations and giving you direction on how to take care of your condition. Volunteers are needed for either a one- or two-hour session from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 28 at the Roberts Center.

Residence Life is looking for students that exhibit Christian maturity, humility, and leadership skills for our 2018-19 leadership teams. Presently, 66 students serve as Resident Assistants and Assistant Area Coordinators. We are looking for students who (a) seek to be stretched and transformed in their leadership roles, (b) value the diversity of our faith community, and (c) desire to invest deeply in the growth of the community.

On-campus and commuting students are welcome to come and learn about this leadership opportunity. Attendance is not required in order to become an RA, but we encourage those who are interested to come and find out more about the role.

The holidays are just around the corner, and it’s a good time to review some personal safety tips. With finals and term papers looming, it is easy to get distracted and not pay attention to your surroundings, so keep these things in mind:

1. Never walk with earbuds in or headphones on as you need to be aware of your surroundings and those around you.
2. Walk with somebody, especially after dark.
3. Call Security for an escort if you don’t have a friend or classmate to walk with after dark.
4. Have your keys in your hand before leaving the building, and after checking the backseat of your vehicle, get right in and lock the doors.
5. When approaching your vehicle, look to see if there are people loitering around it. If so, return to the building or store and ask Security officers to walk you to your vehicle.
6. Try to avoid leaving any valuables in your car or trunk. Before depositing packages in your trunk, check to see if anybody is watching, and if so, keep walking until you can place them in there unnoticed.
7. If someone approaches you while you are in your locked vehicle and preparing to leave, just go ahead and leave and do not engage them in conversation as it can be a ploy to attempt to get into your car.
8. If somebody is following you in your vehicle, call 911, describe the vehicle and where you are, and tell them where you are heading and ask them to meet you there. Do not drive to your residence if somebody is following you! The same applies if you are walking on foot.
9. When leaving your apartment or house for the holidays, arrange to have the mail either picked up by a friend, or stopped by the Post Office. Leave different lights on with timers, and have neighbors put away your garbage cans and pick up newspapers. Have all packages sent to your George Fox PO box for safekeeping.

Meal plans have been rolled over for the spring semester and charges have been applied to your bill. Students who are eligible to change their meal plan for the spring semester will be able to do so starting Monday, Dec. 18, 2017. After this date, please log into your Housing & Meal Plan Intent Form to make this change. Keep in mind that students living on campus are eligible for meal plans based on the number of completed credits earned.

If you are expecting to change your meal plan for the spring semester and you don’t have the options you were hoping to find, you may need to wait until all your grades have been entered to complete this change. Grades are generally due by Dec. 25, 2017. Changes made after Jan. 8, 2018, may be subject to our refund policy. The final deadline for all declining meal plan changes will be Friday, Jan. 19, 2018.
