International Cultural Celebration Week is Nov. 13-17. We are specifically looking for students to provide entertainment between 4-6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 15. We are open to any kind of performance such as singing, dancing, etc., but please check with me first. Students from different cultural backgrounds are encouraged to share and use this opportunity to showcase their cultural talents/background.

Learn from jazz trumpeter Clay Jenkins as he presents a jazz master class today (Friday) from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. in Ross 208. Jenkins will answer questions and share about his experience as a professional jazz musician, performing with the likes of Stan Kenton, Buddy Rich, the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra and others.

The music department invites the campus community to “An Evening of Jazz” concert tomorrow (Saturday) at 7:30 p.m. in Bauman Auditorium. The concert will feature jazz trumpeter Clay Jenkins, who will perform with the George Fox University Jazz Ensemble and Faculty Trio.

Clay is an associate professor of music at the Eastman School of Music. He has performed and recorded albums with the bigs bands of Stan Kenton, Harry James, Buddy Rich, Count Basie and the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra, as well as countless other jazz luminaries.

George Fox students and employees are entitled to one free ticket available with a current university ID presented at the door. Additional tickets are available for purchase at georgefox.edu/concerts.

The Office of Spiritual Life (SpiL) offers students annual opportunities to participate in SpiL trips. These domestic and international trips last anywhere from one to four weeks and challenge students to learn from and work alongside great people and model organizations in the context of their culture, community and complexities.

These trips are designed to share the “Be Known” promise beyond our campus as students meet, befriend and serve “Christ in the least of these,” particularly among people experiencing the various and complex realities of under-resourced communities. Our traveling teams do so by immersing in the cultural contexts and perspectives that exist outside of students’ familiar home culture and utilizing service as a means of nurturing Christian community development.

Our teams go with the mindset of being both learners and servants. Our primary goal through these short-term trips is to recognize, learn from, accentuate, encourage and build upon the assets and gifts of our global neighbors, partner organizations, and the neighbors and communities they live amongst and serve long term. We aspire to listen and learn, encourage and serve alongside to help enhance sustainable ministry and Christian community development, with the goal of coming home with a greater understanding of the kingdom and mission of God and our role in it wherever we live.

The School of Physical Therapy is excited to host a special presentation by Associate Professor Andrew Meszaros, PT, PhD, from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, in Canyon Commons 101 & 102.

Dr. Meszaros will present the topic “Motor Control Update for the Orthopaedically Minded,” which will provide a succinct modern update of select broad concepts in motor control. Topics will include: effects of motivational influences and autonomy on motor learning; senses of effort and force; movement as a self-organizing and emergent property; “good” versus “bad” variability in movement; antifragility; multifractality; the role of reflexes in voluntary movement; and a survey of misconceptions in sensory processing and therapeutic exercise.

Light refreshments will be served beginning at 5:30 p.m., and the presentation will start at 6 p.m. All are welcome to attend this free event.
