A journalism student in the Intro to Journalism class is writing an article on how the policy of free tuition for students whose parents work at the school is affecting the on-campus culture of George Fox and the relationships between students with different economic backgrounds.

The library is excited to announce that the much-anticipated 24/7 space opens at midnight tonight! Students will be able to access the space via the secure card-swipe door to the left of the library front doors when the library is closed. Come listen to a panel of eight students from a wide variety of majors who are doing or have recently done an internship! Today (Monday) in Canyon Commons, panelists will share their experiences and insights about the opportunities internships offer and give you tips on how to land your own. The session runs from noon to 12:50 p.m.

Come hear sculptor Ellen Tykeson speak about her craft at Art Talk tonight (Monday) from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Chehalem Cultural Center (415 E. Sheridan St.).
Tykeson is a sculptor of many different elements. Among her pieces is “Treasure” on the George Fox campus, located between the Pennington Residence Hall and the Stevens Center. She will be talking about her craft and give insight on what the life of a professional sculptor is like. There will be a Q&A after she speaks. Food and drink will be provided.

Residence Life is looking for students that exhibit Christian maturity, humility and leadership skills for our 2018-19 leadership teams. Presently, 66 students serve as Resident Assistants and Assistant Area Coordinators. We are looking for students who (a) seek to be stretched and transformed in their leadership roles, (b) value the diversity of our faith community, and (c) desire to invest deeply in the growth of the community.
On-campus and commuting students are welcome to come and learn about this leadership opportunity. Attendance is not required in order to become an RA, but we encourage those who are interested to come and find out more about the role.

The Graduate School of Physical Therapy is excited to present its fourth annual research symposium on Tuesday, Dec. 5, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in Canyon Commons 101 and 102. Physical therapy doctoral faculty and students will showcase eight rehabilitation research topics. Light refreshments will be served.

Join professor emeritus Roger Newell on Wednesday, Nov. 29, at 7 p.m., when he will be signing copies of his new book, Keine Gewalt! No Violence!, at the Newberg Public Library. The event will include refreshments and an opportunity to chat with the author.
The book tells the backstory of the theological debates and personal acts of faith and courage leading to the moment when the church became the cradle for the German revolution. The book’s first chapter explores the ambivalence of renowned theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer to stand up to the Nazis. As Newell writes, “With remarkable political savvy, Hitler turned his full attention toward the Protestants, enticing and intimidating the children of Luther to join his revival of national honor and military-industrial strength.â€
Subsequent chapters discuss how other prominent theologians such as Karl Barth and Martin Niemöller responded to the Nazis, as well as how the church dealt with the cold war. The themes that emerge from Keine Gewalt! No violence! remain relevant for our own era of seemingly endless conflict. One reviewer called the book “a fascinating look at how the power of prayer can transform individuals and governments.â€
The physical therapy department is looking for volunteers to participate in a lab session on the lower extremities. If you have a problem with your hip, knee, ankle or foot, our lab is the place to be! Our doctor of physical therapy second-year students, along with faculty members, will be performing examinations and giving you direction on how to take care of your condition.
Volunteers are needed for either a one- or two-hour session from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 28, at the Roberts Center.
