Drop by Career Services (STV 220) on Tuesday, January 26th between 11AM and 1PM for this workshop. Its informal format allows you to drop in at your convenience for targeted feedback and instruction on how to express yourself effectively through your cover letter and resume.  If so, and you will be a traditional undergraduate student for the 2010-11 academic year, you may be qualified to apply for the George Fox Alumni Association Scholarship Program. Each year, the George Fox Alumni Association awards 16 scholarships to current students who are direct descendants (children or grandchildren) of George Fox alumni. In total, the GFU Alumni Association will award $17,000 to students for the 2010-11 academic year.

Anderson presents ‘John, Jesus and History Project’ Tuesday in Hoover 250
Monday, January 25th, 2010The university community is invited to hear Paul Anderson’s (Religious Studies) presentation, “The John, Jesus, and History Project: The Story of a Scholarly Consensus Opinion and its Potential Demise,” from 4 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26, in Hoover 250.
Now in its ninth year at the national Society of Biblical Literature meetings, the John, Jesus, and History Project has enlisted the contributions of leading biblical scholars around the world, seeking to test the viability of two critical platforms: the “dehistoricization of John” and the resultant “de-Johannification of Jesus.” As co-chair of the project and editor of its three volumes, Anderson will share the latest on the potential challenging of the “scholarly consensus” on the subject over the last two centuries.

Members of this year’s class are Jai Cook (men’s soccer), Mark Tyler (baseball), Mark Halland (track and field), Manfred Rschan (men’s soccer coach), Bob Dexter (meritorious service), and the 1998 women’s volleyball team.

High School Art Northwest show opens Tuesday, Jan. 26
Thursday, January 21st, 2010Art produced by high school students throughout the region will go on display in the Lindgren Gallery beginning this Tuesday, Jan. 26. The High School Art Northwest show will host an opening reception from 5 to 6:30 p.m. that afternoon. It is a juried exhibit that features cash prizes.

Professor Kenn Willson performs piano recital this Sunday
Wednesday, January 20th, 2010Kenn Willson (Performing Arts) will perform in concert at the First Presbyterian Church in Portland at 2 p.m. this Sunday, Jan. 24. Willson will present “Encounters with Beethoven,†a multi-media piano recital with slides and personal insights into Beethoven. Tickets are available at the door and are $10 for general admission and $8 for seniors and students. Learn more at firstpresportland.org.

Sex trafficking in Portland discussed Thursday in Hoover 208
Wednesday, January 20th, 2010On Thursday, Jan. 21, Howard Kenyon from the Oregon Center for Christian Values (OCCV) will speak about what sex trafficking looks like in Portland and how OCCV is responding. The session runs from 8 to 9 p.m. in Hoover 208 on the Newberg campus.
