Farewell reception for Janis Tyhurst planned this Friday

The university community is invited to a farewell reception in honor of Janis Tyhurst (Library) from 3 to 4:30 p.m. on Friday, March 4, in the Stevens Center Atrium. Janis has accepted a position in Saudi Arabia and will be leaving the university March 8 after more than 12 years of service.

ARC accepting applications for 2011-12 ARC consultants

Do you like showing others ways to be a more effective and efficient student? Do your friends always come to you to look over their papers before they turn them in? Do you have a GPA above 3.0?

If you answered yes to these questions, you might have a future as an ARC consultant in the Academic Resource Center.

Applications are now being accepted for the 2011-12 academic year. Students who will only be on campus during the fall semester are welcome to apply. Submit completed materials by Friday, March 18.

Mr. Bruin pageant hosts T-shirt design contest

IJM chapter meets again Wednesday night

The university’s International Justice Mission chapter invites the community to its next meeting at 7:50 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, in the Le Shana lobby. The group deals in large part with the issue of sex-trafficking on both a global and local scale, and what steps we can do to combat it.

Two major focuses of the chapter are prayer and how we can get involved in the community. Please come see how you can get involved as well.

Lottery to Womens Basketball Playoff Game at Chapman University (Southern California)

Students pay $20 to travel down in vans to see the playoff game Friday night (and hopefully Saturday!). Travel dates are Thursday at 2pm-Sunday.

Must be submitted by Tuesday at 5 p.m. to be considered! Check your email by 9 p.m. on Tuesday to see if you made the list. This is lottery, so only 30 students will be able to come.

Fall 2011 housing selection will be online in MyGFU beginning on March 14th. Now is the time to be thinking about two things:

1)     Who you want to live with. Group sizes can range from 2-6 people. http://www.georgefox.edu/offices/student_life/residence/HowtoChooseaRoommate.html

2)     Where you want to live. The size of your group will determine what options are available. http://www.georgefox.edu/offices/student_life/residence/HousingSelectionOptions.html

Additionally, you will want to make sure you have your housing deposit in by 5:00 p.m. on March 11th.  You may pay your deposit at Student Financial Services.

Portland Youth Philharmonic perform on campus Monday

Bauman Auditorium will be the venue for a free performance by the Portland Youth Philharmonic, led by Conductor David Hattner, at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 28.

The concert program includes Brahms’ Tragic Overture, Tchaikovsky’s Variations on a Rococo Theme and Stravinsky’s Petrushka. Spotlighted will be cellist Jinn Shin, a concerto competition winner.

No tickets are required. It is a free preview of PYP’s annual Winter Concert to be held in the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall on March 5 at 7:30 p.m.

Newby speaks, choirs perform at chapel March 2

Come to chapel this Wednesday (March 2) to hear from Stephen Newby, Seattle Pacific University’s director of university ministries and center for worship. Newby is a worship leader, songwriter and composer well known for his role with Promise Keepers.

George Fox’s gospel choir, along with the SPU gospel choir, will join together in leading our campus into worship during the chapel hour (10:40 to 11:30 a.m.) You won’t want to miss it!
