We still have some great internships to offer this year in our Career Services office. Our past interns have had exceptional experiences, growing professionally. You will learn how to plan, market and execute events along with administrative records management, budget, communication, and public relations training. These internships must be set up for credit through you academic advisor.

Serve Day Activity Fair

Are you involved with a club on campus? Would you like to make other students aware of your club?

Then the Serve Day Activities Fair is just what you are looking for.

At the end of our service on Serve Day, during the all campus celebration, student clubs will have an opportunity to set up a display as a way to advertise your club. The tables will be set up on the quad near all the fun activities that will be planned.

If you would like for your club to be represented, please make plans to reserve your half of a table by contacting Jere Witherspoon at jwitherspoon@georgefox.edu.

Art exhibit opens Thursday in Minthorne Gallery

The opening reception for an art exhibit featuring the work of Craig Goodworth will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, in the Minthorne Gallery.

An artist talk session is also scheduled at 4 p.m. Goodworth’s pieces will be on display through the end of September. Contact the Department of Visual Arts at ext. 2619 for more information.

Free play explores issues related to immigration this Friday

The university community is invited to a free showing of the play A Suicide Note from a Cockroach this Friday, Sept. 2, in Wood-Mar Auditorium.

The play puts a comic twist on the existential dilemma of being an immigrant in the U.S. It is directed by Carlos Alexis Cruz, an adjunct professor at George Fox, and is the debut production of Portland’s Pelú Theatre. You can read more about the play here.

Chapel Credit Exemption

If you feel that you need (for whatever reason) exemption from Spiritual Life Credits you NEED to fill out an exemption request form. The exemption form and chapel credit policy be found at spirituallife.georgefox.edu.

The form is due by Sept. 23. You can drop it by the Spiritual Life Office or mail it to Box #6264.

Piano lessons now available

Did you know that the music department offers applied jazz piano lessons on the Newberg campus?  If not, then now you will!

If you have studied piano for at least two to three years, are a competent player, and would like to learn more about jazz improvisation, ENROLL in MUSA 105 JZ.

You can enroll for .5 credit hour (30-minute lesson per week) plus $325 per semester applied lesson fee (this is like paying a private teacher outside the university), or you can enroll for one credit hour – a one-hour lesson per week – plus $650 per semester.

We have an outstanding jazz pianist: Greg Goebel. He just returned from a European tour toured with other jazz artists, including renowned bassist David Friesen and pop vocalist Gino Vannelli, and was a student of Randy Porter.

The Theatre Season Kickoff

Guitar Class & Lessons

Guitar Lessons and Classes are offered for Fall 2011 at George Fox!

BEGINNING CLASS GUITAR is offered for those new to the guitar who want to learn in a fun group setting (Tues/Thurs. 9:40am-10:30am). Learn to strum and pick popular worship songs while learning to read music. MUSI 250-A

PRIVATE LESSONS/APPLIED GUITAR is offered to bring your playing to the next level. One-on-one lessons cover beginners all the way to very experienced players. Sign up and get some new skills and techniques. All styles are covered including jazz, blues, rock, worship, folk, etc. MUSA 105/305 GT

Lessons are taught by George Fox guitar professor Dave Iula. He has performed at many churches in Portland (Beaverton Foursquare, Southlake Church, Rolling Hills, Imago Dei Community) as well as Portland’s finest clubs (Jimmy Mak’s, The Blue Monk, Mississippi Studios).

Register now for C-CERT classes
