Are you a business major looking for an upper-division course for next academic year? Are you a non-business major who might have a particular interest in a specific business topic?
The School of Business would like to highlight several new(er) courses that are being offered fall 2012:
ECON 485 – Environmental Economics
Students will explore the relationship between the economy and the environment. The efficient management of natural resources, impacts of pollution, and sustainability issues will all be considered. To account for economic growth concerns the scope of analysis includes both the developed and developing world. The primary objective of the course is to increase students’ understanding of policy-relevant, incentive-based solutions to environmental issues.
BUSN 303 – Personal Finance
This course is designed to prepare students to think critically about their relationship with money, develop their own personal financial philosophy and implement practical application of personal financial management. Topics include relationship with money, biblical financial foundations, budgets, loans, spending, housing, insurance, investments, and taxes.
MKTG 485 – Consumer Engagement and Social Networking
Marketing is all about connecting … connecting with your customer, connecting with management, connecting with money (budget), and connecting with retail. What is our business? Who are our customers? What does the customer value? Consumer engagement is not a single source of contact but an ongoing “conversation” – developing brand positioning, leveraging user-generated content, and creating a word-of-mouth social audience, all resulting in customer loyalty and influencing behavior. The questions haven’t changed BUT how we tell the story has.
The 14th annual Fox Film Festival is fast approaching. Your Film Festival Committee is hard at work preparing for a spectacular event. We have some awesome new ideas this year and are looking forward to some fun marketing phases for the event (be on the lookout for a golden ticket in your mailbox).

The International Club is hosting a Chinese class from 7 to 8:30 p.m. tonight (Thursday). All are welcome!
Join us in the International House/Cultural Center, where we had the Chinese class last time. We will spend the first 30 minutes getting to know each other and reviewing what we have learned before, and the main learning time is from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. So, if you have work until 7:30, you can still come.

The second annual George Fox International Photo Contest is here. Submit your photos taken outside of the United States to join this event. Winners will receive a cash prize of $50, $25 and $15 (for first-, second- and third-place winners). The Best of Show will receive $75.

Feeling stressed? The Academic Resource Center is hosting a workshop, “Managing Stress,” this Friday, March 9, from 10:40 to 11:30 a.m. in EHS 125.
This workshop will give effective and concrete tools to help college students manage the stress of college. Topics will include time management, test anxiety, insomnia, roommate and relationship issues, and utilizing stress to your advantage. Our presenter will be Laura Helmer from the Health and Counseling Center.

Believe it or not, the middle of the spring semester is at hand. Now is the time to take an assessment of your perception of how you are doing in each of your classes.
PLEASE read this message CAREFULLY!
Mid-term grades, while not a part of your final semester grade report, are an important indicator of how you are doing academically.
Mid-term grades are meant to encourage students to get in touch with their professors.
There are many resources here at GFU to get you the help you need to be academically successful. If you don’t know what these resources are, please contact me.
Professors will be entering their mid-term grades on Wednesday, March 7, through Friday, March 9.
After March 9, you can view your grades in MYGFU if a mid-semester grade has been entered.
If you do not have a grade entered, then your professor has NOT entered a mid-term grade for you. This could be for a variety of reasons.
We STRONGLY suggest that every student contacts their professors (for each class) to see how you are doing in that class.
Log in to MyGFU to find your mid-semester grades (after March 9)
Now you need to determine what to do next:
You can usually go below 12 hours (at this point in the semester) without impacting your financial aid. Please confirm your financial aid status with your student financial services counselor.
If you go below 12 hours and you are an on campus resident, you will need to contact Dave Johnstone, the associate dean of students, to appeal the policy pertaining to 0n-campus residence requirements which states that you must be enrolled in at least 12 semester hours to live on campus.
Withdrawal results in a “W” on your transcript but does not factor into GPA.
If you were to get an F, it would impact GPA.
