Send some love to our furry friends at the Newberg Animal Shelter! Students in the Management 300 course are organizing a “Fetch” donation drive. Drop off donations Oct. 21-23 in the big black bins located at two locations – one in Hoover and one in Roberts Center, just inside the front doors.

The “Fetch” list:

• Foods: Premium dog food (adult and small bites), premium canned dog food, kitten & cat food (dry and canned), dog treats

• Cleaners: Simple Green, window spray, dish soap, hand sanitizer, 409 spray, laundry detergent (any high-efficiency brand), Tide Free & Gentle (high-efficiency brand), bleach, sponges/scrub brushes, garbage bags (kitchen size), paper towels

• Other: Flea medications, toys/Kongs, small fleece/soft blankets

The student porter position is a new job at Plant Services that will include working closely with the superintendent of custodial and other full-time porters to do various cleaning and porter services for the university.

The position’s duties will include maintaining assigned areas, fleet vehicle cleaning, removing debris, maintaining common room areas, restocking bathrooms, furniture moving, and organizing. It has flexible hours with some weekend work.

Zorzi serves as the director of advocacy for global religious freedom with ADF International. In 2018, she was elected president of the United Nations’ NGO Committee on Freedom of Religion or Belief.

In over 28 years of U.S. diplomatic service largely in Africa, Rawson engaged regularly with UN field agencies on humanitarian issues. As a U.S. ambassador to Rwanda and then to Mali, he worked closely with the UN on peace-keeping programs in both countries.

Gregory, an alumnus of George Fox, has successfully managed programs funded by the U.S. Department of State, United States Agency for International Development, United Nations, European Union, and private donors. He has experience working with the UNHCR in refugee environments, mostly in East Africa.

All are invited to the Fall 2019 Faculty Lecture tomorrow (Tuesday) at 6 p.m. in Hoover 105. Our featured speaker is theatre professor Rhett Luedtke, recipient of the 2018-19 Faculty Achievement Award for Undergraduate Research and Scholarship. 

Join Rhett as he shares his vision for building bridges across religious, ethnic and racial divides through the power of theatre, in a lecture titled, “A Bridge Worth Building.”

Come early, between 5 and 6 p.m., and check out the work of our Richter student scholars at a symposium in the Hoover lobby. Students will present their research projects in a conversational poster format. Refreshments will be served.

The Graduate School of Physical Therapy is looking for volunteers to participate in a lab session on the lower extremity.

If you have a problem with your hip, knee, ankle or foot, our lab is the place to be! Our doctor of physical therapy second-year students, along with faculty members, will be performing examinations and giving you direction on how to take care of your condition.

Volunteers are needed for either a one- or two-hour session between 12:30 and 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 14, at the Roberts Center.

The George Fox music department will host its annual Christmas Concert in December. Tickets are available now on the music department website, and one ticket is free for every student for the Friday, Dec. 6, performance at 7:30 p.m.

Each student must reserve only their own ticket online and bring their George Fox ID with them to show at the door. Because each free ticket must be connected with a student’s name and ID, any group of free tickets in the same transaction and attached to the same student name and ID will be canceled.

You may purchase additional tickets online for any of the performances.

Gather in Bauman Auditorium for the fifth annual Organ Hymn Festival at 6 p.m. this Sunday, Oct. 20. 

Daniel Miller, a nationally known organist and adjunct professor of organ, will play the university’s recently upgraded Rodgers digital organ, featuring the 2,067 pipes displayed as the stage background. 

The 15-part program will feature well-known hymns and include audience participation. Several pieces will be preceded by stories explaining the origin and history of the song, presented by Brent Weaver, professor of music, theory and composition.

General admission tickets are $10. George Fox students and children 12 and under are free. Tickets are available at the door, online, or through the university box office by calling 503-554-3844.

The School of Physical Therapy is excited to host Christopher M. Powers to lecture on the topic “Mechanisms of ACL Injury: Implications for Evidence Based Rehabilitation, Injury Prevention and Return to Sport Decisions.”

The lecture will be given on Thursday, Nov. 7, in Hoover 105 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.

Powers’ lecture will focus on recent insights into the pathomechanics of ACL injury, in particular those related to female athletes. Implications of research and application for athletes, coaches and rehab clinicians will be highlighted.

Powers, a national leader in this area of sports injury, is a professor in the Division of Biokinesiology and Physical Therapy as well as co-director of the Musculoskeletal Biomechanics Laboratory at the University of Southern California.

Campus Public Safety has noticed a lot of improper parking on campus in the evenings after 5 p.m. While students can properly park anywhere on campus after 5 p.m., parking in designated parking spaces is still required.

Please do not create new parking spaces or park along buildings, curbs or in loading zones. Never park in a fire zone, and do not park in disabled parking spaces without a permit. Failure to park properly in a designated parking spot may result in a citation, even after 5 p.m. and on weekends.

Meghan Sullivan, an eminent philosopher and a professor from the University of Notre Dame, will give a presentation titled “The Love Imperative — A Defense.” All are invited to this lecture on Thursday, Oct. 24, at 7 p.m. in Hoover 105.

Sullivan will unpack the Christian love imperative, defend it from some difficult objections, and indicate how it might be the basis for a mainstream philosophical approach to ethics.

The Social Work Club is hosting a Rain Gear Drive for the homeless population in Portland. The drive runs from Wednesday, Oct. 16, to Tuesday, Oct. 29. Please bring all donations to the Social Work House (Meridian Street House) before Oct. 29.

We will be accepting donations of tarps, waterproof coats, towels, blankets, umbrellas, waterproof boots and shoes, hand warmers, and waterproof bags and/or backpacks.
