Nominations sought for September Employee of the Month

Tuesday, August 31st, 2010

As we move into September, please consider a colleague you believe is deserving of the September Employee of the Month award. As always, your nomination should include the person’s name, job title, a concise but specific summary of this person’s recent contributions (past 30 days or so) – what was done, who was impacted, etc. – and any other information that you believe makes this person deserving of this award.

Please submit your nomination via e-mail to Peggy Kilburg (HR) by Sept. 24. The President’s Executive Leadership Team will then select the recipient from the nominations submitted. The winner will be announced at our community meeting on Thursday, Sept. 30, and will receive a $100 gift card to The Allison.

Bon Appetit offers info as new academic year begins

Sunday, August 29th, 2010

Bon Appetit wishes to welcome all our new students as well as welcome back all our returning students. We’ve made several changes this year to accommodate all the additional students.

  • Starting Monday, Aug. 30, we will have two entry points into Klages Dining Room for lunch and dinner where students on meal plans can swipe their ID cards. In addition to the one in the hallway by the pond, we are adding a second station at the Bruin Den Annex door. We’re hoping this will shorten the lines during these meals.
  • Because the Bruin Den Annex will be open for student dining for lunch and dinner, it will no longer be an exclusive area for Bruin Den customers. For those who are accustomed to eating lunch in the annex, you’re still invited to come in and join us. Please just let our person who is swiping cards know you’re a Bruin Den customer and you’re welcome to bring in the lunch you purchased from the Den. Another great option would be to stroll over to our Villa Cafe located in the VAC.
  • Trays are back. Due to the large number of students we’ll be serving, we’ve decided to bring back the trays on a trial basis to see if using them will be more efficient for everyone.
  • This year we are introducing a new celiac-friendly station in our servery for those students who have certain gluten and wheat-related intolerances. Please come and check it out as it’ll greatly enhance the number of options available for meals.
  • For weekly menus and other information, please check out our website: cafebonappetit.com/georgefox.

Wednesday, August 25th, 2010

Student supervisors: The last payday of summer is Wednesday, Sept. 15. For us to meet this deadline, we need your students’ August time sheets by Friday, Sept. 3, by 5 p.m. Remember that Aug. 30 and 31 must go on the time sheet for September.

Please be sure the student’s name, ID number and cost center number are legible on each one. Also, don’t forget to sign them and be sure the students did as well. Please do not send students to HR to sign their time sheets.

Thanks so much for helping us get our students paid in a timely manner!

The library is pleased to deliver library materials for participating faculty to their offices. All library materials must be signed for by the faculty member or persons designated as their signers.

Be considerate of new students when parking Aug. 26-28

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010

This Thursday we will welcome the largest-ever incoming class of students. Parking is going to be extremely congested, especially on the west side of campus. Please do not park in the Stevens, Hoover, Wood-Mar or Pennington lots, or on Sheridan, Carlton (library/Mail Services area), River or Center streets south of Sheridan Street.

We would ask you to park in the Bauman lot if you work/have classes on the west side of campus, and when that is full, to park on the campus side of Meridian Street. Please help us to be as welcoming to our new and returning students, and to sacrifice your parking spots this Thursday through Saturday.

Summer workstudy students living on campus this fall need to leave their cars in the lots that their parking permits indicate, and off-campus summer workstudy students and grad students need to park in the commuter lots beginning on Thursday.

The next few weeks might be challenging, so we ask for your patience!

Thank you,
Security Services
