Library hosts Bill of Rights display

To promote George Fox’s celebration of U.S. Constitution Day on Sept. 17, the Murdock Learning Resource Center is presenting a display highlighting our Bill of Rights, the first 10 amendments to the Constitution, in a student-created display. Stop by the library before Oct. 22 to check it out. The display case is located adjacent to the library’s main desk.

Ultimate Frisbee Club seeks players

The university’s Ultimate Frisbee Club invites you to come play Frisbee every Wednesday night at 8 p.m. and Thursday night at 10 p.m. on the track field. Join the Facebook group “Frisbee on the Quad” and get more information about the club. You can also talk to us Wednesday at Serve Fest from 4 to 6:30 p.m.

University’s 12th annual Serve Day is Wednesday

Serve Day is Wednesday! The entire university community will unite together for our 12th annual Serve Day, participating in a variety of service opportunities in Newberg and the surrounding area.

Here’s the schedule:

  • 7:30-8:20 a.m. – Continental breakfast begins and bagging of your own lunch (provided by Bon Appétit)
  • 7:45-8:15 a.m. – Bag your own lunch (special community coupons are attached to the lunch bags)
  • 8:30 a.m. – Kick-off celebration on the quad lawn
  • 9 a.m. – Groups meet at numbered stakes on lawn, and depart for service site
  • Lunch – Eat with your group at the service site
  • 4 p.m. (approximate) – Participants return to campus
  • 4 p.m. – Serve Fest and community fair for all participants and families
  • 4:30-6:30 p.m. – Dinner

As a reminder, the cost of breakfast and the evening dinner is covered for all members of the university community (excluding family members). If you would like to invite family or friends to Serve Fest and would like to purchase dinner tickets, please fill out this linked form. If you are not a team leader and would like to purchase a lunch, please fill out this form (gluten-free lunches are available by request on the morning of Serve Day).

Ruth Baker hosts salad supper for George Fox women Sept. 20

Come and join the women of George Fox University as we gather to welcome newcomers, renew old acquaintances and celebrate the coming of fall with a salad supper hosted by Ruth Baker at the president’s home (Edwards House), 402 S. College St., in Newberg.

Join us Monday, Sept. 20, between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. It is open to all George Fox women. Please bring a salad to share.* Drinks, bread and dessert will be provided.

Employee flu clinics offered Sept. 15-16

The Health and Counseling Center has received a limited amount of flu vaccine and we would like to invite current faculty and employees to get their flu shot early this year. We are scheduling appointments on Wednesday, Sept. 15, and Thursday, Sept. 16, from 8:15 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 4 p.m.

We will have additional clinics in October for staff and students when we receive more vaccine. If you do not have Regence insurance, there will be a $15 fee. Please call ext. 2340 to schedule your appointment.

Women’s leadership cohort applications still available

Applications for the Women’s Leadership Development Cohort are still available, and the WLDI committee welcomes you to apply. If you are interested in participating in the 2010 cohort, or want to encourage someone to apply, please see the WLDI Cohort Application Packet for more information. You will find four documents related to this opportunity: a memo providing information about the program, an application, and two recommendation forms.

All commuters participating in Serve Day will meet in front of Bauman Auditorium at 9 a.m. after opening celebrations. You will chose between eight sites to serve, including Faith in Action, Tilikum, etc. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are provided. Temporary driver needed for September

We are looking for someone to drive a faculty member from Newberg to Salem to Tigard three Mondays in September (Sept. 13, 20 and 27), leaving Newberg at 8 a.m. and returning to Newberg at about 5 p.m. When not driving, the person will assist with tasks as needed at each campus (probably office work). This is an 8.5-hour work day (with half-hour required meal break). A car is not required, although if provided, mileage will be reimbursed.

There may also be occasional need for a driver on Thursdays beginning Sept. 9, early morning through afternoon, to provide transportation from Newberg to the Portland campus and/or back. Driver license and good driving record required.
