Do you have extra winter clothes? Urban Services is doing a clothing drive from Nov. 29 through Dec. 3. There will be a bin outside the Christian Services office as well as a collection at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 30. Check your closets over the break!

The lost and found is stuffed to the brim with lost items! If you are missing that coffee mug, water bottle, book, or hoodie, etc., please stop by the security office between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. to look for your lost items.
We will be doing one last lost and found table in the Bruin Den before semester’s end, but please come and look for your lost items before then at the security office. All items not reunited with their owners will be donated to charitable causes at semester’s end.

- 11:30 a.m. Faculty Lunch honoring retirees, emeriti faculty, award recipients, etc. (Klages West)
- 1 p.m. Department Dessert Receptions
- 2 p.m. Graduates assemble/doors open
- 3 p.m. Traditional Undergraduate Commencement Ceremony

Barbara is senior vice president and market executive of U.S. Trust, Bank of America Private Wealth Management, and has served on the university’s board of trustees for 17 years. From her wealth of experience, she will share with us her leadership journey and thoughts about mentoring and being mentored.
The event is being sponsored by the Women’s Leadership Development Committee. Please bring your own lunch. Beverages and cookies will be served.

Everyone is invited to an open house at the new International Center/Cultural House (formerly the Moore House) Thursday, Nov. 18, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The house was recently remodeled and now serves as a lounge area for international and underrepresented domestic students. It also houses the offices of International Student Services and international admissions.

The Department of Performing Arts invites you to James Pick’s senior piano recital this Saturday, Nov. 20, at 7:30 p.m. in Bauman Auditorium. The program will include compositions by Beethoven, Rachmaninoff, Chopin and Muczynski. Violinist Kathleen Lavengood and cellist Jerry Bobbe will join James onstage for Muczynski’s First Piano Trio.

Within the next few days you will receive a letter from President Robin Baker regarding your opportunity for involvement in a Community Care Fund that will directly benefit local nonprofit organizations.
Every donor has the opportunity to designate their dollars for an impact area, or for a specific organization. Correction to Cultural Celebration Week schedule: The Invisible Children “Face-to-Face” Tour event is not Wednesday, but is Tuesday, Nov. 16. This event is co-hosted by the Center for Peace and Justice and Center for Global Studies and Invisible Children. The evening will include a showing of the 40-minute film Go!, which documents three American students who traveled to Uganda, met students their age, and through these relationships saw their lives changed.
In addition, two Ugandans, James and Robert, who have lived through the war and have been involved with Invisible Children’s partner school program, will share their stories and address ways in which students can respond and participate in advocating on behalf of northern Uganda’s children. This will include a talk-back session with a question-and-answer time following the film.
Please join us Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. in Hoover 105.

The university’s Symphonic Band and the Newberg Community Band will perform a free concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 18, in Bauman Auditorium.
The Symphonic Band will perform Dies Natalis, by Howard Hanson; Ave Maria (Angelus Domini), by Franz Biebl, arranged by Robert C. Cameron; and Commando March, by Samuel Barber. The band is directed by Pat Vandehey. The Hanson piece is a small preview of the upcoming Christmas Concert.
The Newberg Community Band, directed by Dick Elliott, will perform Loudoun Praises, by Brian Balmages; Colonial Airs and Dances, by Robert Jager; and Symphonic Fanfare, by Mark Camphouse.

The university will host a breakfast featuring Kirk Petersen, regional director in Oregon for Alpha, a course on the basics of the Christian faith, from 7:30 to 9 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 23, in the Villa Academic Complex.
The event, hosted by the Christian Chamber of Commerce of the Northwest, is free for chamber members who R.S.V.P. at cccnw.net. It costs $8 for non-members and those who R.S.V.P., and $10 at the door.
Petersen helps churches effectively connect with people in their communities by running Alpha courses. He has been a pastor for 17 years, working most of that time directly with middle and high school students. He is a graduate of Biola University and earned a master’s degree from Western Seminary in Portland.
