Staff, faculty and students: The lost and found tables will be set up in the Bruin Den from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 10. Please stop by to check for your lost items. All items not reunited with the owners will be donated to the May Serve garage sale and/or other charitable causes.

If you have a child aged 23-26 whom you would like to add to your medical/dental insurance coverage, now is the time to enroll them (deadline is March 18). The Health Care Reform law allows dependents to be covered regardless of student or marital status, even if they have other coverage at their own employer.

To add your child, you must complete the enrollment form for Pioneer or Kaiser (available on this web page). We cannot add your child based on an e-mail or phone request. By enrolling your child, you are committing to this coverage for one year (through March 31, 2012) unless your child becomes eligible for other coverage through their own or a spouse’s employer (and then you will only be allowed to stop their coverage if you tell us within 30 days of the other coverage start date).

Come, bring your lunch, and learn what it’s like to live in Afghanistan or the UAE (United Arab Emirates). George Fox students with Middle Eastern ethnicity will share such experiences as growing up in an an Islamic society, living in one of the most highly affluent cities in the world (Abu Dhabi), and  dealing with the daily realities of family and friends in a war-ravaged nation.

These presentations will be interactive, so there will be opportunities for questions and dialogue. Feel free to drop in and leave as your schedule permits.

The university’s International Justice Mission chapter invites the community to its next meeting at 7:50 p.m. Wednesday, March 9, in the Le Shana lobby. The group deals in large part with the issue of sex-trafficking on both a global and local scale, and what steps we can do to combat it.

Two major focuses of the chapter are prayer and how we can get involved in the community. Please come see how you can get involved as well.

All are welcome to James Pick’s senior composition recital at 6 p.m. this Saturday, March 12, in Bauman Auditorium. Hear a diverse collection of James’ original compositions performed by 13 performers, including James at the piano. Enjoy pieces for saxophone, flute, violin, two pianos and a choir.

A missions commissioning event is scheduled from 5 to 6 p.m. Thursday, April 14, for anyone going on a missions trip over the summer. I am hoping to get an idea of how many people will attend the event. If you are thinking about attending, please e-mail Roy Abdun-Nur at missionsatgfu@gmail.com.

A New Abolitionists Faith & Film event – a showing of the film Born Into Brothels – is scheduled Tuesday, March 8, at 9 p.m. in EHS 102. The documentary tells the story of the inspiring nonprofit foundation Kids With Cameras, which teaches photography skills to children in marginalized communities.

We hope you can come and develop a deeper understanding of what life in these communities is like.

The Academic Resource Center is hosting a workshop, “Mid-term Grades and You: What You Can (and Should) do with Your Mid-term Grades,” at 10:40 a.m. this Friday, March 11, in Lemmons 8.

Rick Muthiah, dean of learning support services, and Kathi Gatlin, senior enrollment counselor, will present at the session. They will discuss some ways for students to make use of mid-term grade information available on MyGFU or from their professors.

This Monday, March 7, Kent Thornburg, director of the Heart Research Center at Oregon Health and Science University and professor of cardiovascular medicine, will speak on “Embodying the Dream: Health and Disease in America.” He will present from 4:40 to 5:40 p.m. and from 7 to 8 p.m. in Hoover 105.

If you plan to nominate anyone for the Administrative Staff Member of the Year and/or Support Staff Member of the Year awards, please submit your nomination no later than Monday, March 21. A form can be used but is not required.

Simply state why you think the person is deserving of the award – his or her contributions to the university, its students, and its employees. Indicate what was done, who was impacted, and how this impact was and can be observed. In other words, what makes this person stand out in your mind?
