May student employee time sheets due in HR

Thursday, May 26th, 2011

Student supervisors: Payday is Wednesday, June 15. So please submit your students’ May time sheets to HR right away — by Friday, June 3, by 3 p.m.

Please be sure the student’s name, ID number and cost center number is legible on each one. Also, don’t forget to total them, sign them and be sure the students did as well. Please do not send students to HR to sign their time sheets. We will notify them if a signature is needed.

Federal Work Study regulations require that students delivering their own time sheets must have them placed, by you, in a sealed envelope.

Thanks very much.

Free business seminar features Norman Bodek on June 3

Friday, May 20th, 2011

The School of Business invites students and employees to a free speaker series event featuring Norman Bodek, CEO of PCS Press. He will present “The Human Side of LEAN/The Harada Method” from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Friday, June 3, in Room 155 at the Portland Center.

For the past 20 years, Bodek has worked tirelessly to bring the best of Japanese management theory to America. He is credited with discovering and publishing the works of Dr. Shigeo Shingo and Taiichi Ohno, the inventors of the Toyota Production System. His knowledge has been gleaned from taking more than 70 trips to Japan and visiting 250 plants.

Following is a synopsis of his presentation:

“The key ingredient currently missing in many businesses is consideration of the employee. The Harada Method, which is the second pillar of Lean, focuses on the employee. What if we told the employee that we were interested in their personal progression? What if we simply planted a foundation for personal growth, whether intellectual or physical, or a creative combination of the two? Would this new, more-focused, better-skilled employee be an asset? Of course!”

Join us for a discussion on the role of individuals in industry. Among the questions we will discuss:

  • How do we humanize industry?
  • How we can create a more focused and better skilled employee?
  • How does employee respect and trust affect quality and outcomes?

R.S.V.P. at this link. Questions? Contact Amber Russell at arussell@georgefox.edu.
