Student supervisors: Please send HR your student employee offer letters

Wednesday, May 11th, 2011

Please make sure to send to Human Resources your summer student employee offer letters. Remember that we also get the summer applications of those you hire.

If they have never worked for George Fox before, we will also need the I-9 form and the 2011 W-4 form. It wouldn’t hurt to offer them direct deposit, either. It will be sent back to you if not completed correctly, so please look it over before sending it to Box 6108.

Thanks!

Lockers in Wheeler will be cleaned out in June

Monday, May 9th, 2011

We will be cleaning out Wheeler Sports Center’s lockers in June. If you want to protect your locker and the things in it, e-mail Patty Findley (pfindley@georgefox.edu) with your locker number and we won’t cut the lock off and donate the contents to those less fortunate.

So you know, saying something like “three lockers in from the left side” doesn’t do it. I need a number.

Thank you,
Patty Findley

Trauma Response Institute hosts disaster preparedness workshop

Monday, May 9th, 2011

The university’s Trauma Response Institute is teaming with Medical Teams International to host a free home disaster preparedness workshop from 9:30 to 11 a.m. this Saturday, May 14, at the Portland Center.

Oregon is at risk of a disaster similar to the 8.9 earthquake that struck Japan on March 11. This week’s workshop will teach us how to be more prepared at home and at work to survive a similar event.

Ian Yocum, battalion chief with Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue, will share about his Medical Teams International (MTI) relief work in Japan and the struggles that continue to challenge their recovery. Also present will be Mike Lueck, emergency management coordinator with the Tigard Police Department and a trainer for Tigard Community Emergency Response Teams.

The workshop is free but donations will be accepted, with all proceeds going toward MTI’s disaster relief effort in Japan. For more information, contact Anna Berardi at ext. 6104 or aberardi@georgefox.edu.

Be wary of counterfeit money circulating in Newberg area

Wednesday, May 4th, 2011

Financial Affairs reports that some counterfeit money is being handed out in the Newberg area. We had one in our deposit today and have no way to know where it came from. What we had was a $10 bill, but others could be around also.

The best way to tell is by holding the bill up to a light. There should be a narrow strip running from top to bottom of the bill and a picture of the president (only seen when held up to the light) on the side of the bill. We do not feel this was passed to us intentionally, but it should be something we all watch for.

If you have any questions, please contact Jan Amerson in Financial Affairs at ext. 2164.

Be considerate of guests when parking this week

Wednesday, May 4th, 2011

With several guests visiting campus this week, please be considerate when parking. The Bauman lot will be the primary parking area for those attending the OSAA state choir competition through Saturday, so please use the Stevens or Wood-Mar lots.

Also, a Target commercial is being filmed on various locations on campus Thursday and Friday. Please leave the Pennington, Le Shana and Winters parking lots open for the crew’s trucks and vehicles.

Target commercial filming on campus May 4-6

Tuesday, May 3rd, 2011

About 50 members of a film crew will be on the Newberg campus Wednesday through Friday (May 4-6) to film a series of advertisements for Target. The video and still photography will be used in a back-to-school online advertising campaign in the fall.

The commercials were created by national ad firm Wieden+Kennedy and are being filmed by a local film company. They will be filming in the Klages Dining Hall, Bruin Den, Pennington Hall, Le Shana Hall and Winters Apartments. Please leave the Pennington, Le Shana and Winters parking lots open for their trucks and vehicles.

For more information, contact Rob Felton (503-554-2129).
