Please nominate a colleague who would be deserving of the September Employee of the Month award by submitting your nomination via e-mail to Peggy Kilburg by Monday, Oct. 17. Your comments should be as specific as possible and focus mainly on contributions in September that make him or her deserving of this award.

The President’s Executive Leadership Team will select the recipient from the nominations submitted, and the winner will be honored with a citation and a $100 gift card to The Allison at our next community meeting on Oct. 20.

The Center for Peace and Justice invites you to join us for a Global Issues Forum on Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 11-12, on the Newberg campus. The event will feature Rev. Célestin Musekura and Meredith Wheeler of ALARM (African Leadership & Reconciliation Ministries).

ALARM exists to empower the African church to impact the African continent by developing and equipping leaders with skills and tools to nurture and deepen the Christian faith for the transformation and reconciliation of the African communities. ALARM was founded in 1994 in response to a crisis of Christian leadership in Africa following the genocide in Rwanda.

Musekura is the president and founder of ALARM. He is an ordained Baptist minister and published author who was born and raised in Rwanda. Wheeler is the international director of ALARM.

We need students and some teachers to make the hallway in Ross come alive with high schoolers! It is for our student film Beautiful, sponsored by Newberg’s Youth Outreach and the university ‘s CMCO department. The short film advocates each woman’s unique God-created beauty. Please partner with us in this statement about what it means to be a beautiful woman of God.

Come dressed like you are going to high school with backpack and books, etc. (or, for adults, as if you were a high school teacher). We will be filming in the Ross hallway at 2:30 p.m. this Sunday, Oct. 9.

For those applying to study for a semester off-campus during the 2012-2013 academic year, there is a revised application now available as of Oct. 3. This will replace the application which has been previously handed out by the Center for Global Studies at its office and at information meetings this year.

Please be advised: The only changes are on the “Health and Counseling” portion of the application form.

All George Fox employees and students may receive one complimentary ticket to the homecoming theater performance, The Acts, taking place at 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 7-8, in Wood-Mar Auditorium.

Complimentary tickets are available all week between 10 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. at the Information Desk in the Stevens Center.

The Acts is an original one-man play featuring alumnus Rich Swingle (’91), who brings to life the miracles and wonder of the first-century church as God’s Spirit empowers his people. Featuring scenes from the lives of Paul, Peter and many other characters, The Acts is an inspiring reminder of God’s work to establish his church.

Do you have a heart for people with special needs? If so, come hear about you can get involved with Young Life Capernaum this Thursday, Oct. 6, at 7:30 p.m. in EHS 102.

This is the last week to sign up for “World’s Got Talent” auditions. Now through Friday, Oct. 7, sign up in the student life office to share your cultural talent with Fox and the surrounding community. Get a great night of music and raise money for an important cause this Thursday, Oct. 6, at the Tyrone Wells benefit concert for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Tickets can be purchased for $10 at the door or at georgefox.edu/tyronewells. The Bauman Auditorium doors open at 7 p.m. and the concert begins at 7:30 p.m.

Wells is Kelly Chang’s (Psychology) brother-in-law and Meredith Dougherty’s (Student Life) cousin. The concert benefits kids like Quinn Dougherty (5), son of alumni Ryan and Meredith Dougherty.

Have you ever wanted to learn to speak Russian but never had the chance? Well now is your time. Come to an informational meeting at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 12, in Stevens 208 to learn more about an upcoming Russian class. The class is not credited and free.

On Monday (Oct. 3), Suhailh Haidary, a George Fox student and native of Afghanistan, will share about what life is like for families in Afghanistan and discuss some of the ways that Afghans are working to rebuild their country. Her presentation is the latest installment of the university’s Liberal Arts and Critical Issues (LACI) program.

We are looking for people to represent a country flag in the Oct. 24 chapel to open Cultural Celebration Week. Whether you are native, lived in that country, or have a strong connection, we invite you to be a part of a biannual chapel performance.

If you are interested, contact Dianna McIntyre (ext. 2649) or Shelley Yonemura (ext. 2318) no later than Friday, Oct. 7. You will also need to be available for these dates:

• Sunday, Oct. 23, 1-2:30 p.m.: You need to be here for the entire practice. We need to coordinate a large group of flag walkers and dancers. You’ll be learning a very easy walk routine.
• Monday, Oct. 24, 10:15 -11:30 a.m.: We’ll need you to come to chapel early to line up and receive your flag. Performance will be at the beginning of chapel, around 10:40 a.m.

It’s really important that can attend both events on the times stated. Please make sure you can do this before making a commitment!
