Register for Vocational Discipleship Group before Oct. 1

Thursday, September 15th, 2022

Organizations and institutions can seem cold and inhuman, somehow disconnected from the lives we lead. But the reality, especially in modern society, is that most of us are organizational beings. We work in companies or other types of institutions. We are members of churches and other civic organizations.

Join us this semester to explore “God’s Purpose for your Organizational Life.” Over seven meetings, we will seek to uncover some surprising biblical truths about human institutions. In the process, we will also discover that our lives can be more fully imbued with God’s purpose when we begin to appreciate that He is not just interested in our individual and family lives, but also our organizational lives.

This group is a great opportunity for students (graduate and undergraduate) who want to explore the integration of faith, work and vocation.

No outside preparation needed. All meetings will include a FREE catered dinner. Email Travis Pickell at  tpickell@georgefox.edu by Saturday, Oct. 1, if you are interested. (Space is limited to 12 students, so do not delay!)

Meetings will be held on Oct. 11, Oct. 25, Nov. 1, Nov. 8, Nov. 22, Nov. 29 and Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. Location to be decided.

How to handle harassing phone calls

Tuesday, September 13th, 2022

Several George Fox employees this week received harassing phone calls to their office line from a male caller using a private number. If you receive a similar call, here are a few things you can do to prevent or discourage future calls from the harassing person.

  • Hang up on the caller. If you receive a harassing phone call, don’t engage in a conversation with the caller or divulge any personal information. The caller is seeking attention. Not giving a response to the caller can discourage future harassing calls.
  • Take down as much information about the call as you can. Keep a log of date, time, and nature of the call. What did the caller say? How old did he/she sound? Did the caller seem intoxicated? Did he/she have an accent or speech impediment? Was there any background noise? Was a phone number/name displayed on the Caller ID device?
  • Please report harassing phone calls to Campus Public Safety at 503-554-2090.
  • If you receive a serious threat where life or property is threatened, you should contact Campus Public Safety so they can call local police immediately and make a report.

If you received an unwanted call and wish to talk to someone about your experience, you are encouraged to make a free appointment at the Health and Counseling Center

Please note: Concur reports due on 10th of month following transaction date

Planned power outage scheduled for today and tomorrow

Sunday, September 11th, 2022

PGE has a power outage planned for today (Monday) and tomorrow in the evening. Because of the Friendsview construction along Fulton Street, PGE is shutting off power for a few hours each night for buildings and homes serviced in the area while they bring the electrical system online.

Buildings affected could be: Bauman, Brougher, Duke, Fulton Streeet House, Minthorn, Murdock Library, Nash House, North Street Annex, Ross, Roy Apartments, Stouffer Stadium, and Wheeler.

The planned outages are today from 5 to 10 p.m. and Tuesday from 6 to 10 p.m. If each evening’s work is successful, the power may be restored before 10 p.m. on that night.

Remember that if the power is out in an academic building (e.g. Bauman, Duke, Minthorn, Murdock Library, North Street Annex, Ross, Wheeler, etc.), the building must be evacuated until the power is restored. This is for your safety. Thank you!
