Enjoy chess and a short film with the Chess Club tomorrow

Greetings from the Chess Club! We will be hosting a film and free play event tomorrow (Friday) from 5 to 7 p.m. in Canyon Commons 101. The event will be non-competitive, so just bring yourself and a smile!

The short film that we will be watching is Geri’s Game, a funny five-minute short animation by Pixar about a chess game. Free candy will be provided. All are welcome!

Rally for Revival is returning on March 11

Rally for Revival is back! The George Fox Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) is hosting a night of worship, prayer and testimonies on Monday, March 11, at 7:30 p.m. in Bauman Auditorium.

We want to invite all of our surrounding communities (George Fox, FCA huddles from around the area, local churches, etc.) to join us as we come together to pursue revival in our time.

Join us for a dinner around the globe! We’ll be having dishes from all over the world on Wednesday, March 13, at 7 p.m. at the Moore House (IRC). We will be eating meals, snacks, drinks, and desserts from places like India, Peru, Japan, Ethiopia, Mexico, and many more.

All you have to do is show up and be ready to try something new.

Turn old bags into wallets with Arts & Crafts and Stewards of Sustainability clubs

Do you have a lot of plastic bags lying around? Save them! The Arts & Crafts and Stewards of Sustainability clubs are putting on an event on Saturday, March 9, where we will be making art out of trash. These projects include learning how to make wallets out of old plastic and knit with yarn made of grocery bags.

In preparation for the event, please start collecting plastic bags that would otherwise be thrown away. These could include takeout bags, grocery bags, bread bags, or other similar items. You can then bring your materials to the event to work with or donate to others to work with.

Measure your fine motor skills in kinesiology research study

Curious about how exercise fatigue impacts fine motor skill performance? We are looking for current George Fox students to explore this question. Participate in two short, fun sessions evaluating the speed of your fine motor skills following various exercises.

You will run one lap at full speed for the first session, then max out your hand grip strength for the other. To sign up, follow this link and be sure to include your full name.

Register now for Camp Rock, a boulder competition

Good morning, campers! On Saturday, March 9, the George Fox climbing wall will be hosting its annual spring boulder competition. This year, the theme is “summer camp.” Your camp color will be randomly assigned when you register.

This will be an individual-based competition during the session you sign up for. We will also have opportunities to compete in games with a team during other sessions. Sessions will begin every two hours starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, with the last session beginning at 4 p.m.

This competition is open for students and employees of all skill and experience levels. Routes are set specifically for each skill category. Registration is completely free, but will increase to $5 on Sunday, March 3. Register on IM Leagues now!

Explore what it means to be human at Dalton Lecture, ‘Stardust & Wonder,’ on March 14

What does it mean to be human? This year’s Dalton Lecture explores the question from both scientific and biblical perspectives, with an emphasis on awe. The lecture will identify shared values in both the scientific and spiritual approaches to exploring human distinctiveness.

Join us on Thursday, March 14, at 7:30 p.m. in Bauman Auditorium for the lecture, “Stardust & Wonder,” with Dr. Praveen Sethupathy, chair of the Department of Biomedical Sciences at Cornell University.

Dr. Sethupathy will include concepts from science and genomics that invite the audience to marvel at who we are and how it relates to our calling as image bearers of God.

The public is welcome, and admission is free. A George Fox Student Research Symposium and cookie reception will follow.

There will be an additional science lecture on pediatric cancer from Dr. Sethupathy on Thursday, March 14, at 3 p.m. in Bauman Auditorium.
