Reminder: FAFSA data is coming this month

Thursday, February 29th, 2024

March is here, which means the countdown to FAFSAs can begin!

In January, the Department of Education announced that it will process and send FAFSA data to schools in the first half of March. Your financial aid counselors expect to receive FAFSAs within the next three weeks and package aid as soon as possible afterward. Here’s what this means for you:

  • You will receive emails from the Department of Education and George Fox University when your FAFSA has been processed and we have received your data.
  • If you made a mistake on your FAFSA, you will be able to log into your studentaid.gov dashboard and make corrections once you receive notice that your FAFSA has been processed.
  • Your institutional aid from George Fox will remain the same as last year, but federal and state aid may change based on new FAFSA information and calculated Student Aid Index (SAI).
  • We will receive FAFSAs in batches from the Department of Education, not all at once. While we will work through batches as quickly as we can, it may take several weeks for you to receive your financial aid offer letter after your FAFSA is processed.

If you have any questions or concerns while this process is ongoing, you can visit George Fox financial aid office on the second floor of the Stevens Center during drop-in hours (Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.) or schedule an appointment online with your financial aid counselor.

Read our Current FAFSA Issues FAQ page for updated answers to common FAFSA questions. Thank you for your patience during this time, and please know our financial aid office is here to support you in whatever way we can.

Join in turning plastic into useful items on March 9

Thursday, February 29th, 2024

With everyday essentials like grocery bags, food/drink wrappers, Ziplock baggies, and packaging, we go through a lot of plastic each day! While a small portion of this ends up recycled, most of it winds up in the landfill, where it will stay for hundreds of years and never completely decompose.

In the spirit of “reduce, reuse, recycle,” the Arts & Crafts Club and Stewards of Sustainability Club are hosting an upcycling event, where we will have a few crafts to create art out of old materials! We will gather from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 9, in Brougher. Projects will include:

  • Transforming old plastic packaging into functional wallets, pencil pouches and jewelry
  • Turning plastic grocery bags into yarn for knitting/crocheting
  • Using wood scraps to build a bug hotel for the Stewards of Sustainability Club’s garden

If you are interested in this event, please sign up here and start collecting (clean) plastic trash to bring!

Feel free to reach out to Lilly McAfee at lmcafee19@georgefox.edu with any questions.

Join focus group Tuesday to discuss making the climbing wall more accessible

Thursday, February 29th, 2024

Mobility, injury, or other dynamics may make the rock wall unattainable. We want to hold a focus group to provide a platform to share your own thoughts and experiences or even perspectives you have overheard about how the wall might be further accessed.

On Tuesday, March 5, at 10 a.m. in the Hadlock meeting room, we invite anyone with an interest in listening or sharing their thoughts on how to make the rock wall more inclusive and accessible.

Please consider joining us. We want to listen and learn from your observations so we can accommodate to the best of our ability.

Spring musical, ‘Bright Star,’ opens next week in Wood-Mar Auditorium

Wednesday, February 28th, 2024

The university’s performing arts department will present our spring musical, Bright Star, in Wood-Mar Auditorium beginning next week. Here are our showtimes:

  • Thursday-Saturday, March 7-9 & March 14-16, at 7:30 p.m.
  • Sunday, March 10 and March 17, at 2 p.m.

Synopsis: Inspired by a true story and featuring the Tony-nominated score by Steve Martin and Edie Brickell, Broadway’s Bright Star tells a sweeping tale of love and redemption set against the rich backdrop of the American South in the 1920s and ’40s.

When literary editor Alice Murphy meets a young soldier just home from World War II, he awakens her longing for the child she once lost. Haunted by their unique connection, Alice sets out on a journey to understand her past – and what she finds has the power to transform both of their lives.

With beautiful melodies and powerfully moving characters, the story unfolds as a rich tapestry of deep emotion. An uplifting theatrical journey that holds you tightly in its grasp, Bright Star is as refreshingly genuine as it is daringly hopeful.

Students and staff can claim their free ticket by visiting our website at georgefox.edu/box-office. Student tickets are free for Thursday nights; staff tickets are free for any night. When selecting your complimentary tickets, please do so using your own George Fox email address. Open captioning will be offered on the first Sunday and second Thursday performances.

If you have any questions, contact Kacy Hughson at khughson@georgefox.edu.
