Join online seminar on physical activity in medicine

Thursday, April 16th, 2020

Physical activity is an inexpensive, powerful medicine that helps people but is underutilized. A continuing medical education event, Interprofessional Solutions for Physical Inactivity in Primary Care, will empower healthcare clinicians to activate the people they support.

Join us between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, for this remote presentation. The fee is $100 for professionals, $50 for residents, interns and students, and free for George Fox students! Register here for the course.

Our presenters will review new CDC guidelines for physical activity alongside brief evidenced-based assessment and treatment approaches. The Patient-Reported Outcome Monitoring Information System (PROMIS) will be reviewed and utilized.

Contact Tammy O’Doherty (todohert@georgefox.edu) for more information.

Watch reading of original play ‘International’

Tuesday, April 14th, 2020

A George Fox alumna, JeanneAnn Farris, and a current student, Nicola Pieper, have created a play called International. A free play reading will be performed via Zoom on Wednesday, April 22, at 7:30 p.m.

International is a play that explores the challenges and experiences of people who identify with more than one country. It delves into the struggles of identity in country, identity in the Christian faith, and the clashes and correlation of the two in relation to one another. It’s a compiling of interviews, most of which are associated with students and faculty of George Fox University.

If you’re interested, would like to know more information, or would like the link to the Zoom session, email internationalstagedreading@gmail.com.

Reminder about benefit plan year change and COBRA notification

Monday, April 13th, 2020

Health insurance-eligible employees: This is a shortened plan year as we move to a Jan. 1 start date in 2021; there will be another open enrollment in the fall of 2020. George Fox’s current healthcare plan year runs from April 1, 2020, through Dec. 31, 2020 (nine months).

As is required every year, George Fox’s COBRA provider is in the process of alerting employees receiving health and/or benefits through the university of their rights through COBRA. This is done via letter, and you will receive it this week if you have not already.

Questions can be directed to hr@georgefox.edu.

Important physical distancing reminder

Monday, April 13th, 2020

Please make sure that you continue to carefully follow physical distancing guidelines to slow the spread of COVID. With the beautiful weather, it is tempting to relax our attention to these important matters.

If you are using the George Fox track or field or are out on the quad or elsewhere on campus, these guidelines from the Oregon Health Authority (OHA) should be carefully followed:

  • Stay home, save lives. The best way to stay healthy and prevent the spread of COVID-19 is to stay home. You must also limit things you do outside your home to what you must do. Examples of things you must do are shopping for food or picking up medicines. The governor’s order does not allow gatherings where people cannot keep six feet apart. Also, the order does not allow social events and non-essential business where people come into close contact.
  • Maintain six feet between you and all other people.
  • Wash or sanitize your hands after contact with any surface.
  • Do not touch your face, except after washing and sanitizing your hands.
  • Avoid groups and contact with other people.

For more information on physical distancing and Oregon’s novel coronavirus response, click here. Questions? Contact Campus Public Safety at 503-554-2090.

Employees invited to pray for five students each day

Sunday, April 12th, 2020

The university pastors and the Employee Prayer Network would like to invite you to consider joining us in a special spring semester prayer project.

Knowing that there are many personal concerns within our student community – including physical and mental health, finances, family relationships, soul care, graduation transitions, and academic success – this is an important time for us to pray for our students purposefully, listening to the prompting of the Holy Spirit and praying with consistency.

If you would be willing to pray for the same five students each business day, from now through May 1, please send an email to Jamie Noling-Auth (jnolingauth@georgefox.edu) and the Office for Spiritual Life can provide you with a list of students. Or, if you have a specific group that you know and want to pray for, would you share those names with us?

We would love to make sure that all of our undergraduates have someone committed to praying for them in this unusual time. (As always, all student information needs to remain within our employee community in order to protect student privacy and adhere to FERPA guidelines.)

Thank you! Contact our office (spirituallife@georgefox.edu) with any questions.
