Lip Sync Auditions

This is a reminder to sign up for Lip Sync auditions on Wednesday, Oct. 26, at 8:30 p.m.! Please be ready to share your music, costumes, and the basics of your act. We are not expecting the finished product!

Auditions will be approximately 15 minutes, and will take place in Lemmons 8. A sign-up sheet is posted on the door of the ASC offices!

Upcoming Bruin home sports events

Friday, Oct. 21, 7 p.m. – Volleyball vs. Lewis & Clark, Wheeler Sports Center/Miller Gym

The men’s and women’s golf teams will be competing in the Northwest Conference Championships Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 22-23, at the Heron Lakes Golf Course in Portland. The men will play the Great Blue course, the women the Greenback course. Tee times are set for 11 a.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. on Sunday.

World’s Got Talent takes Bauman stage Oct. 26

International Club hosts car wash Thursday afternoon

The International Club is hosting a car wash fundraiser from 1 to 5 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 20, in the Le Shana parking lot. Proceeds will go toward funding the club’s activities. Any donation you can make would be appreciated. You have the option of leaving your car with us and picking it up 30 minutes later.

Location changes for surgeon’s seminar on Oct. 21

Dr. Steven L. Wilhite, a general surgeon practicing in Springfield, Ore., will give a seminar on medical ethics and technology on Friday, Oct. 21, at 10:40 a.m. in Hoover 105 (please note location change).

Dr. Wilhite attended OHSU after graduating from George Fox as a biology major. This seminar is sponsored by the Department of Biology and Chemistry. All are invited!

Security Services provides info on parking permits

Staff and faculty: Many of you have been ticketed lately for not displaying your staff permit. If yours is broken, please bring the pieces to the security office and we will issue you a new one.

If you lost your permit, just bring $5 cash to the office to purchase a new one. Additional permits are also available for $5 if you usually drive more than one car and don’t want to switch your parking permit from car to car.

Subsidized tickets available for Justice Conference in Portland

Student leaders from Quaere Verum and the International Justice Mission clubs, as well as the Center for Peace and Justice, have made a proposal to ASC for subsidized student registration for the upcoming Justice Conference in Portland on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012.

The conference will take place at the Convention Center in Portland and will feature many world-renowned speakers on theology and social justice. Among those are: Francis Chan, Walter Bruggeman, Miroslav Volf, John Perkins, Shane Claiborne, Rachel Lloyd, Richard Twiss and Lynne Hybels. More than 500 organizations, nonprofits and NGOs will be represented as exhibitors, including George Fox Evangelical Seminary and the university’s Center for Peace and Justice.

Student registration is normally $79, but with ASC’s support students will pay only $30 (after a reimbursement).

If you would like to attend this conference for a subsidized price, please contact Nick Ogle (nogle07@georgefox.edu) or Melanie Newell (mnewell@georgefox.edu) so your name can be added to the list and you can receive further information.

All-employee meeting scheduled for Thursday

An all-employee meeting is scheduled from 3:30 to 5 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 20, in Hoover 105.

For those at the university’s regional sites, the meeting will be available at this stream site. A chat room has also been set up, and a video recording of the meeting will be available for viewing in the days following the meeting at itunesu.georgefox.edu.

Tickets now available for fall play, ‘Steel Magnolias’

Tickets are now available for the university’s fall theatre production of Steel Magnolias by Robert Harling.

The play opens Thursday, Oct. 27, and runs Thursday through Saturday, Oct. 27-29, and again Thursday through Sunday, Nov. 3-6, in Wood-Mar Auditorium. All shows begin at 7:30 p.m. with the exception of the Sunday, Nov. 6, performance, scheduled as a 2 p.m. matinee.

Come to the box office, now located at the information desk on the first floor of the Stevens Center, to redeem your complimentary student and employee tickets and purchase additional tickets. The box office is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Student Project Fund: Now Accepting Proposals!

Ever dreamed of having a tree-house on campus? A rope swing in the canyon? Art sculptures in the quad?

Now is your chance!

ASC is now accepting proposals for the Student Project Fund, which has funded projects in the past such as the amphitheater and the fire pit pavilion in the canyon.

To submit a proposal, please include the following information:
To: ASC Student Project Fund
From: Your name
Proposal: A short description of the proposed project
Rationale: Support the above proposal. Is it a need on campus? Why? Benefits?
Cost: A detailed breakdown of total costs and where you found the price estimates
Location: Include if necessary

Women in ministry panel meets tonight in Hoover 105

Seminary Fair returns to campus Oct. 25

Career Services is hosting a Seminary Fair on Tuesday, Oct. 25, in the Hoover Atrium from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. A number of seminary representatives will be present to connect with prospective students who desire to be equipped for ministry through graduate education.

This event is a great opportunity to meet with recruiters to investigate different career choices and seminary opportunities for the future. Check BruinCareers on MyGFU for a list of seminaries attending.

Dance Company Audition Application Pick-Up

Those with intermediate-advanced level dance experience are invited to audition to be a member of the George Fox Dance Company.

Auditions are this upcoming Sunday, Oct. 23, from 6-8 p.m. Please be prepared for an intermediate-advanced level dance class.
