Reminder: Seminary Fair returns to campus Tuesday

Don’t forget the Seminary Fair to be held between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, in the Hoover Atrium. There will be a variety of seminaries represented to connect with prospective students who desire to be equipped for ministry through graduate education.

The event, hosted by Career Services, is a great opportunity to meet with recruiters to investigate different career choices and seminary opportunities for the future. Check BruinCareers on MyGFU for a list of seminaries attending.

Studio portrait session open to employees on Nov. 16

Diane Randall speaks on campus Friday night

The university community is invited to hear Diane Randall, executive secretary of the Friends Committee on National Legislation – the largest team of registered peace lobbyists in Washington, D.C. – present a free lecture from 7 to 8 p.m. tonight (Friday) in EHS 102.

Randall will speak on “The Privilege and Responsibility of Faithful Citizenship.” Her visit is being sponsored by George Fox’s Center for Peace and Justice.

Randall’s background includes many years as an executive director of statewide advocacy organizations, a passion for rebuilding the democratic system in our country, a record of achievements in lobbying and citizen engagement, and a spiritual grounding in the Religious Society of Friends.

In addition to her evening presentation, Randall will lecture in an 11:40 a.m. political science class in Hoover 103 and again at 1:40 p.m. in a philosophy class in Stevens 209. She also will introduce the FCNL internship program to interested students during lunch beginning at 12:35 p.m. in the Klages Dining Hall.

Directors of GoED off-semester programs visit campus

Adele and Dr. Michael Pucci from GoED will visit George Fox to share information about their off-semester programs GoED Africa (based in Rwanda) and GoED Mekong (based in Thailand). They will have a table in the Bruin Den Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 24-25, and Michael will give lectures in several classes as well as a talk on the theology of poverty at Quaere Verum on Monday night.

Volunteering Opportunity

George Fox is partnering with the city of Newberg to beautify an area along 99W behind Wilder House. Interested students are asked to meet Friday, Oct. 21, at 2:30 p.m. on the sidewalk along 99W, by the road to Wilder House.

Students and staff will be installing irrigation lines from 2:30 to 5 p.m. along the edge of the 99W sidewalk. If you have any questions, please contact Plant Services at ext. 2010.

Please lock up your bikes or take them home

Security Services needs to inform you that somebody has been cutting bike locks on campus bike racks. Please purchase the sturdiest bike lock you can and never leave your bike unlocked.

Now that the weather is cool and wet, we urge you to take your bike home until warmer and dryer weather returns next spring.

Next all-employee lunch moved to Nov. 1

The next Newberg all-employee lunch date has been changed to Tuesday, Nov. 1, at noon in the Cap & Gown Room. All-employee lunch events are normally held the last Tuesday of the month, but this was moved due to the staff conference on Oct. 25.

Majors Fair

All first-year students and sophomores are invited to attend the Majors Fair on Friday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the Hoover and EHS atriums. Faculty will be available to answer any questions you may have about their program and assist you with selecting a major.

Musician needed for movie

We need a pianist who feels comfortable improvising a “ragtime”-esque score for a five-minute movie. Recording will be done next week, Oct. 20-24, at a time most convenient to the studio engineer and recording artist.

All-employee meeting set for Thursday afternoon

Don’t forget the all-employee meeting scheduled from 3:30 to 5 p.m. this afternoon (Thursday) in Hoover 105. Part of the meeting will include President Robin Baker’s report on last weekend’s board meeting.

For those at the university’s regional sites, the meeting will be available at this stream site. A chat room has also been set up, and a video recording of the meeting will be available for viewing in the days following the meeting at itunesu.georgefox.edu.

Place your order online at this link for the 2011-2012 Bruin Directory. Bruin Directories are a service to the George Fox community, created by a staff within ASC. We have worked very hard to get the book out to the community in a timely fashion, and we are pleased to say that the books are near completion.

Each Bruin Directory is $5, and the total will be charged to the provided department account number. The directories will be distributed through Mail Services. The deadline for placing orders is Nov. 4, 2011.
