Graduating seniors: Check out the Pay It Forward Program

April 2nd, 2019

Graduating seniors, do you know about the Pay It Forward Program?

By opting to donate all or half of your remaining enrollment deposit, you can help other George Fox students. One-hundred percent of your gift will support a fellow student who is unable to continue their education or an alum who has a remaining amount due to the university.

Recipients are nominated by faculty and staff members, then vetted for eligibility, and allocations are made by the Pay It Forward Award Committee. As part of the program, awardees are asked to continue the generosity by “paying it forward” in the future.

Learn more about this amazing program during Exodus at the Student Accounts table, or contact Heidi Thomason at hthomaso@georgefox.edu for more information.

President Baker reflects on visit to George Fox’s gravesite

April 1st, 2019

In his recent visit to England, President Robin Baker had an opportunity to visit Bunhill Fields, a cemetery in London that is the burial place for those who were considered “dissenters” in the 17th and 18th centuries.

Not far from Bunhill is the gravesite of George Fox, an unassuming grave that is representative of the Quakers’ belief that “all are valuable” and that “all are made one in death.” You can read his reflections on the trip in this blog post.

Comings and Goings

April 1st, 2019

Alumna Jenna Holmes has joined the university as a media production specialist. After graduating from George Fox with a bachelor’s degree in cinema and media communication in 2016, she did media production work for the university from August of 2017 to January of 2018, and again from December of 2018 to the present. She also worked in the department as a work-study student from 2013 to 2016. Outside of George Fox, Jenna has run her own freelance photography and videography business, Jenna Holmes Photography, since 2014. Jenna enjoys traveling and has been to South Africa, Australia, The Dominican Republic, and Germany.  She lives in Tualatin with her two cats, Dipper and Padfoot, and attends Northside Community Church. She also leads middle schoolers for Newberg Young Life.

Plant services welcomed Shirley Eckerdt as a groundskeeper last month. She joins the department full time after working on a temp basis between May and December of 2018. For two years (2016-18) she worked as a personal assistant for a local citizen, and since 2013 she has done numerous volunteer jobs for the school’s plant services department and the Newberg community. She lives in Newberg and is married to Gary, who works at George Fox as a mechanic.
