The contest will be judged by votes from students, families and friends at the tailgate party in the Bauman parking lot on Saturday, Oct. 26, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The winner will be announced in the third quarter of the football game and on social media.

Meghan Sullivan, an eminent philosopher and a professor from the University of Notre Dame, will give a presentation titled “The Love Imperative — A Defense.†All are invited to this lecture on Thursday, Oct. 24, at 7 p.m. in Hoover 105.
Sullivan will unpack the Christian love imperative, defend it from some difficult objections, and indicate how it might be the basis for a mainstream philosophical approach to ethics.

The Social Work Club is hosting a Rain Gear Drive for the homeless population in Portland. The drive runs from Wednesday, Oct. 16, to Tuesday, Oct. 29. Please bring all donations to the Social Work House (Meridian Street House) before Oct. 29.
We will be accepting donations of tarps, waterproof coats, towels, blankets, umbrellas, waterproof boots and shoes, hand warmers, and waterproof bags and/or backpacks.

Join us for a panel discussion on the topic “Should the U.S. Remain in the UN?” The panel, featuring David Rawson, Kelsey Zorzi and Fred Gregory, will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 23, at 5:30 p.m. in Canyon Commons.
Zorzi serves as the director of advocacy for Global Religious Freedom with ADF International. In 2018, she was elected president of the United Nations’ NGO Committee on Freedom of Religion or Belief.
In over 28 years of U.S. diplomatic service largely in Africa, Rawson engaged regularly with UN field agencies on humanitarian issues. As a U.S. ambassador to Rwanda and then to Mali, he worked closely with the UN on peace-keeping programs in both countries.
Gregory, an alumnus of George Fox, has successfully managed programs funded by the U.S. Department of State, United States Agency for International Development, the United Nations, the European Union, and private donors. He has experience working with the UNHCR in refugee environments, mostly in East Africa.

An art exhibition featuring Japanese artist Mika Aono is coming to the university’s Lindgren Gallery. It will be open for viewing from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays from Monday, Oct. 21, through Thursday, Dec. 5.
The show, titled “Over and Over,†will open with an artist’s talk at 6 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 21, at the Chehalem Cultural Center, followed by a reception from 7 to 8 p.m. in the gallery.
Aono’s images “explore the humanness of absurdity and futility through laborious processes, finding value in unfulfilled wishes,†according to the artist.

The university is hosting a SOLO Wilderness First Aid (WFA) course on campus Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 2-3. This is an excellent course for individuals who enjoy the outdoors or work in a camp or wilderness setting.
The class will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. The cost is $100 for current George Fox students, $150 for employees, and $225 for community members. National Outdoor Leadership School courses through REI start at $245 per person.
Participants will receive two full days of hands-on instruction and gain confidence in their ability to provide aid to those in need. Sign up through IMLeagues.com and pay the course fee in the Hadlock Student Center.
