Employees and students interested in getting involved with the new community garden on campus (as well as those who have started being a part of it already) are welcome to help put some of the beds “to bed” for the winter and/or find out more about the garden at a “bedtime party” Friday, Nov. 2.
From 2 to 5 p.m., we’ll be harvesting potatoes, squash, and sunflowers, and spreading compost on the beds we’re putting to bed for the winter.
From 5 to 5:15 p.m., we’ll be making plans for the winter and spring. So, whether you’re already a supporter of the garden or would just like to learn more, please join us for any or all of this time.

Come knit and get to know new friends. “Knit to Know” is a new group on campus that will be getting together every Sunday from 9:00-11:00pm in the Carey 1 lobby. We will be knitting scarves until the end of January and then donating them to a women’s shelter.
Wear your PJ’s, bring a mug, and show up for a fantastic time of knitting, fellowship, and food! Everyone is welcome and you may come and go as you please.

The School of Education will be hosting a joint National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission (TSPC) accreditation visit Nov. 2-7. While the School of Education has been accredited by the state for many years, this is the first national accreditation visit.
Two accreditation team members will visit the Boise Center and Redmond campus on Nov. 2. The team of 10 begins its visit in Newberg and Portland on Nov. 3. As you have opportunity, please welcome our accreditation team members to George Fox.

Plant Services will be installing new light poles in the Villa Academic Complex South lot Friday. All vehicles must be moved out of the South VAC lot before Friday morning. Owners who cannot be found will have their vehicles towed at their expense. The South lot will be closed all day.
As an alternative, there is plenty of parking at the Le Shana lot. Thank you for your cooperation.

A faculty teaching forum, “The First Day of Class: Beginning with the End in Mind,” is scheduled from noon to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, in the Executive Dining Room on the Newberg campus.
The first day of class is vital for setting expectations that will impact the remainder of the semester. In this session, Dwight Kimberly (Biology) will share some of his philosophy and strategies for getting his classes off to a strong start and carrying through to the end of the semester.

You are invited to join the engineering department for its annual “Pumpkin Chunkin'” event at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at Farmer Brown’s Pumpkin Farm. The event demonstrates student-designed catapults that fling pumpkins.

The Portland Youth Philharmonic will perform two concerts in Bauman Auditorium Sunday and Monday, Nov. 4-5.
Sunday’s concert begins at 4 p.m. and features the PYP’s wind ensemble. Tickets cost $10 for seniors/students and $12 for adults and will be available at the door a half hour before the concert.
On Monday, the PYP’s youth orchestra will perform at 7:30 p.m. There is no admission charge for that performance.
Students in modern British literature and French classes, with technical help from theatre students, are combining to stage a one-time theatrical performance of Samuel Beckett’s Waiting for Godot at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, in Wood-Mar Auditorium. The presentation will be in both French and English (subtitles will be provided). Admission is free, and a brief talk-back session will follow the show.
