There are still seats available for the first holiday luncheon to be served by the students of Family and Consumer Sciences this Friday, Nov. 16. The luncheon will include a chicken entree with seasonal accompaniments, soup or salad, beverage, and dessert. The cost is $8.

Lunch will be served from noon to 12:30 p.m. in Lemmons Room 4. Take-out orders also are available, so you may pick up several for dinner. Contact Helen Morse (Family and Consumer Sciences) at ext. 2640 between 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. for reservations and any dietary accommodations.

The students also will serve the lunches on Friday, Nov. 30, and Friday, Dec. 7.

Come to the University Store Monday through Wednesday of Thanksgiving week (Nov. 19-21) and “gobble up” the savings of “leftover,” reduced-for-clearance gift items and supplies during the store’s “Turkey Sale.”

The store closes early (5 p.m.) on Wednesday and is closed Thursday through Sunday, Nov. 22-25.

Do you have vocal talent? Can you make a parrot voice? If so, the student Christmas movie, The Plight Before Christmas, needs you. Just imagine seeing your name (and hearing your voice) on the big screen at the Fox Film Festival this spring.

Basketball schedule cards are now available. One is being placed in every faculty, staff, and student mailbox on campus, but if you would like to have extras, contact the sports information office at ext. 2926.

An exhibit featuring the art of Doug Campbell (Visual Arts) will go on display in the Lindgren Gallery beginning Thursday, Nov. 15. The exhibit is titled “Face to Face II” and will run through Jan. 18. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The exhibit will feature portraits and up-close images of people in a form he calls “photo-expressionism.” Campbell takes photographs of people, structures, and landscapes and transfers the image to canvas with an overhead projector. He then paints the images using layers of bright, intense colors.

C.S. Lewis Academy High School’s theater department will present Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None in Wood-Mar Auditorium at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, through Friday, Nov. 16. The cost is $3 at the door with a George Fox ID card.

Mike McConaughey will direct the murder mystery, which is not intended for children under age 10.

Alpha Psi Omega, the Theatre Honors Society, is kicking off this year with an exciting weekend!

George Fox will host a midyear commencement ceremony in the James and Lila Miller Gymnasium-Coleman Wheeler Sports Center on the Newberg campus Saturday, Dec. 15. The commencement will start at 2 p.m., with audience seating at 1 p.m. Tickets are not required. Seating is limited to no more than 10 guests per graduate. Join in a panel discussion, sponsored by the Philosophy Club, to address these questions at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, in the Hoover Academic Building’s second-floor faculty lounge. Panel speakers will be Phil Smith (Religious Studies), Mark McLeod-Harrison (Religious Studies), Corey Beals (Religious Studies), Frank Canepa, and Kohleun Adamson. Refreshments will be served.

Annie Rilette joined Health and Counseling Services as a nurse in late October. She arrives from Sitka, Alaska, where she was a primary nurse at a family practice and internal medicine clinic the past three years. Before that, she was a nurse on the pediatric oncology floor at a children’s hospital in Seattle for a year. Annie earned a bachelor of science in nursing degree from Oregon Health & Science University in 2003 and attended George Fox from 1998 to 2001. She lives in Newberg.

Darren Funk joined Custodial Services as a custodian in late October. He most recently worked as machine technician for the Fujimi Corporation in Tualatin and, before that, was a customer service representative for Affiliated Computer Services of Portland. Darren earned a bachelor’s degree in cinema and media communication from George Fox in 2004. He lives in Newberg and attends North Valley Friends Church in Newberg.

Four essays by Paul Anderson (Religious Studies) have been published this month, including “Antichristic Errors – Flawed Interpretations Regarding the Johannine Antichrists,” and “Errors of the Antichrists – Proselytizing Schism and Assimilative Teaching within the Johannine Situation” (in Text and Community, Essay in Commemoration of Bruce M. Metzger). Also published were “‘You Have the Words of Eternal Life!’: Is Peter Presented as Returning the Keys of the Kingdom to Jesus in John 6:68?” (in Neotestamentica) and “From One Quest to Another: The Johannine Conception of Authentic Faith as a Response to the Divine Initiative” (a response to John Painter’s essay in What We Have Heard from the Beginning: The Past, Present and Future of Johannine Studies). Paul also moved from co-chair to chair of the John, Jesus, and History Group at the national SBL meetings for a three-year term.

Tom Head (Economics) participated in a Nov. 10-12 consultation in Philadelphia entitled “A New Call to Visionary Leadership,” sponsored by the Thomas H. and Mary Williams Shoemaker Fund. About 40 Friends in leadership roles across the United States were invited to the event, which aimed to “generate and articulate an emerging vision, create a process for continued discernment, and consider ways to empower effective servant leadership among Friends,” according to organizers.

Paul Anderson’s (Religious Studies) article, “Aspects of Historicity in the Gospel of John: Implications for Investigations of Jesus and Archaeology,” was referenced in a Christianity Today article that appeared in the magazine’s October issue. University Mail Services is now offering a courier service to the Salem Center two days a week.  The courier currently services the Portland Center each day Monday through Friday. Student Project Fund requirements and proposal guidelines are now available in the Student Union Building (SUB).

The Student Project Fund is to be used for substantial, on-campus projects as desired by the student body. Projects for consideration should include those which will serve as permanent physical additions to the campus. Past projects have included the Foxhole pool tables, the volleyball court behind HMS, and the firing kiln near Bauman Auditorium.

The Student Project Fund currently has approximately $22,000 available for use. While all proposals will be considered, not all proposals will be passed and accepted.
