Mike Richeson joined marketing communications as a senior writer this month. He worked previously at the The Daily Inter Lake newspaper in Kalispell, Mont., where he was a county and outdoors reporter for the past year. Previously, Mike served as editor and chief photographer for the Bigfork Eagle newspaper in Bigfork, Mont. (2006-07), and, before that, as a sports, features and health reporter at The Daily Inter Lake (2005-06). Also, since 2003, he has done writing and design work for publications produced for Multnomah University in Portland. He earned a bachelor’s degree in biblical studies from Multnomah in 2005. Mike plans to move to Newberg.

Kenn Willson (Performing Arts) performed a concert and taught master classes at the Accademia Pianistica della Marche in Recanati, Italy, on Oct. 24-25. He performed his “Encounters with Beethoven” concert and taught six students from the piano academy in master classes. He was hosted by Gianluca Luisi and the piano academy. Luisi, who visited George Fox in 2007, plans a return trip to the university Feb. 15, 2009, to hold master classes with George Fox piano students and perform a recital.

Ed Higgins’ (Writing/Literature) poem “Epistemology” was published in the December issue of Friends Journal (Vol. 54, #12, p. 10). The poem was published previously in 2007 issues of Poets Against War and George Fox Journal.

Paul Anderson’s (Religious Studies) essay, “From One Dialogue to Another — Johannine Polyvalence from Origins to Receptions,” was published in Anatomies of Narrative Criticism; The Past, Present, and Future of the Fourth Gospel as Literature last fall. Paul also wrote an essay, “Honest to John!,” that responded to four major reviews of his book The Fourth Gospel and the Quest for Jesus in the October issue of The Journal for Greco-Roman Christianity and Judaism, and his report, “John and Qumran,” was published in the fall issue of HENOCH: Studies in Judaism and Christianity from Second Temple to Late Antiquity. Paul also contributed a new foreword to Jesus: What Manner of Man, by Henry J. Cadbury, reprinted by Wipf & Stock in the fall. Finally, Paul represented his class as a distinguished alumnus of Malone College for its homecoming in October.

Don’t forget: The university will present its annual Christmas concert this week. The Department of Performing Arts will present “O Holy Night!” Friday through Sunday, Dec. 12-14. The concert features more than 175 musicians from five ensembles in the main-stage performance, and preconcert music featuring six of the university’s chamber ensembles.

Friday, Dec. 12, 7:30 p.m. (preconcert music begins at 6:30 p.m.)
Saturday, Dec. 13, 7:30 p.m. (preconcert music begins at 6:30 p.m.)

Ticket information
All faculty, staff and students receive one free ticket that can be picked up at the box office in the University Store. Additional tickets may be purchased in person at the box office or by calling the office at ext. 3844. Tickets also are available at music.georgefox.edu. Tickets are $10 for adults; $8 for seniors and George Fox alumni; and $6 for students and children. The concert features reserve seating, so if you have a favorite seat, make sure you save it now.

Help a family in need and take part in Adopt a Family, an outreach sponsored by the university’s nursing club. This year, the club is helping the Clarks, a family of four whose dad recently got laid off. There is a Christmas tree outside of the nursing office with ornaments that have items the family needs/wants. More instructions are by the tree if you would like to help. Thanks for your generosity.

Dear student body,

A letter of forgiveness has been written to the students who hung the Obama cut-out back in September. We felt there was a need for reconciliation with this incident. The letter to the students reads as follows:

“Friends,

What happened in September hurt us and you. We do not want to push what happened aside, neither do we want to hold onto it and keep bringing it up. What we do want is for you to know that you are forgiven and still accepted as a part of our community. Know that you are loved by us and God”.

Now here is where you all come in. On Wednesday, December 10th at 8 pm-930 pm , this letter will be in the Bruins Den, handwritten, and ready for anyone who wants to express their agreement with this letter to come and sign it. I ask you to consider lending your voice to this expression by signing this letter.
