The university will host the Chehalem Symphony Orchestra for a free concert at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 13, in Bauman Auditorium. The symphony, directed by Ben Brooks, consists of George Fox students and faculty, as well as residents from the greater Portland area.
Pieces to be performed include a solo of Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 4 in D Major (Movement No. 1), by Kathleen Lavengood; Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3 (Movements 1 and 2); Sibelius’ Symphony in D Major (Movements 1 and 4); and Eric Ewazen’s Shadowcatcher, a concerto for brass quartet and orchestra.
Two days later, on Thursday, April 15, the university will host a number of music ensembles in a Chamber Concert at 7:30 p.m. in Bauman Auditorium. Doors open at 7 p.m., and there is no admission charge.
Groups performing that night include a beginning band, a vocal jazz ensemble, chamber singers, a string ensemble, handbell ringers, a flute ensemble, a clarinet trio, an early music ensemble, and a low brass ensemble.
Please join us (rain or shine) for a groundbreaking ceremony for phase one of the Austin Sports Complex from 4 to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 13. Construction on the soccer game field is scheduled to begin in April, with the completion set for late summer.
Parking will be available on Crestview Street.
The Women’s Leadership Development committee invites female employees on the Newberg campus to join us for another event as we continue exploring leadership development for women.
Join us in Hoover 105 from 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 14, as we host a panel of university community members who are seen as leadership advocates for women within the George Fox community. MaryKate Morse will moderate the panel as members talk about assisting and providing opportunities for emerging leaders. On a later date, the event will be available via iTunes U for all women from other university sites to watch at their convenience.
Refreshments will be served. Administrators and staff will be released from office responsibilities.
The work of senior art students will be on display in the Minthorne and Lindgren galleries April 13 through May 1. An opening reception for the Senior Thesis Exhibit is scheduled for 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 13, in the Minthorne Gallery.
Students exhibiting their work include studio arts students Cortney Robson and Meghan Hedley (Minthorne Gallery) and graphic design students Tiffany Aquinde, Rachel Belgard, Ryan Erickson, James Green, David Griffiths, Kaytt Kojima, Krista Ray and Rebekah Ruble (Lindgren Gallery).
In addition, graphic design students will present their senior portfolios at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 20, in Hoover 105.
The Hawaiian Club is putting on its annual Hawaiian luau dinner in the Klages Dining Room on Wednesday, April 14, between 4:30 and 7 p.m. Come for a fun-filled evening with friends, food and live music. If you are not on the meal plan, it costs $10; however, the first 20 people who come get in for free.

Enrollment for History 399, Cross-Cultural Experience: South Africa (spring 2011), is now open. Patterned after Juniors Abroad, this history course will spend three weeks in South Africa. Seniors who have already taken Juniors Abroad may take this course. Juniors who take the course can still participate in Juniors Abroad during their senior year. For more information, please contact Paul Chamberlain.

This is your last chance to pick up DVDs featuring pianist Valentina Lisitsa, this year’s visiting Bösendorfer Artist. Kenn Willson (Performing Arts) has two different DVDs: one shows Valentina performing all 24 Chopin Etudes and the other is entitled “Black and Pink,” on which she performs Liszt, Ravel, Chopin and Rachmaninoff.

The theatre’s spring production of Eurydice opens this week in Wood-Mar Auditorium, with shows scheduled at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, April 8-10. Additional performances are scheduled April 15-17 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, April 18, at 2 p.m.
Written by Sarah Ruhl and directed by Megan Weaver, Eurydice is a fantastical retelling of the myth of Orpheus. University employees receive one complimentary ticket, and students will be admitted free on both Thursdays. Your complimentary ticket is only available at the Box Office in the Bruin Bookstore. Additional tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for alumni and seniors, and $6 for students and children under 12. Tickets may be purchased at theatre.georgefox.edu.
