Apartheid in South Africa officially ended 30 years ago, leaving the country with questions about how to replace violence and stark injustice with a functioning democracy, inclusive of all the nation’s citizens.
South Africans turned to a new idea, utilizing truth and reconciliation commissions to expose the reality of apartheid while offering amnesty from prosecution or retaliation to those who told the truth about what they did. This approach was celebrated as a new and better way to deal with injustice and the stark social, political, and economic polarization it created.
Has it worked as hoped? Former George Fox professor Dr. Gina Johnson will help us answer that question. Come to Hoover 105 on Monday, March 18, at 6:30 p.m. to hear her presentation. The event will be video recorded.
Questions? Please reach out to Ron Mock at rmock@georgefox.edu.
