ASC is in need of chaperons for its annual Sadie Hawkins dance on Friday, Feb. 26! The dance is hosted on the boats the Portland Spirit and Sternwheeler. Employees are more than welcome to bring along their spouse and will be compensated with a gift card for their time.

Apply to be a Peer Advisor for next fall! Do you like to meet new people? Are you passionate about making everyone feel included? Do you like to be helpful? We are looking for a diverse group of 80 students to welcome in the class of 2020!

You don’t need to be an extrovert, just someone who is willing to go out of your way to make new students feel welcome. The application can be found here, with submissions due on Wednesday, Feb. 24, at 5 p.m. in the student life office.

Join in fun of the community garden this Saturday

Come join us this Saturday, Feb. 20, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the George Fox Community Garden! Didn’t know we had a community garden? Well, we do … and it’s wonderful!

We’ll be preparing the garden space for the upcoming season and have some fun getting our hands in the dirt together as a community. All are welcome! The garden is located on the corner of Crestview and Villa (near Austin Sports Complex), and you can also check out our Facebook page for more information.

We will be meeting at 5 p.m. in the Stevens Center lobby, and all are welcome (tickets are paid for already)!

Dalton Lecture presented in Bauman tonight

Don’t forget to join the university’s Department of Biology and Chemistry for the sixth annual Dalton Lecture at 7:30 p.m. tonight (Thursday) in Bauman Auditorium.

James M. Tour, PhD, the T. T. and W. F. Chao Professor of Chemistry, Professor of Computer Science, Professor of Materials Science and NanoEngineering at Rice University’s Smalley Institute of Nanoscience and Technology, will present “Jesus Christ and Nanotechnology: The Impact of Faith Upon the Life of a Scientist.”

Admission is free, and seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. In addition, chapel credit is available for students.

Dr. Tour will also be speaking today at 3 p.m. in Wood-Mar Auditorium. Feel free to attend that as well.

Sadie Hawkins tickets on sale in Bruin Den

Sadie Hawkins tickets are on sale in the Bruin Den starting today (Wednesday) from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Student tickets are $5 and non-George Fox students are $10.

There are two different boats, the Portland Spirit and Sternwheeler, in order to accommodate everyone. Please have an idea of which boat you would like to sign up for when you come to purchase your ticket.

Sadie Hawkins is taking place on Friday, Feb. 26.

Free bus ride and pizza available for Saturday’s road basketball games

Our women’s basketball team is awesome and one win away from a perfect regular season – the Bruins’ second undefeated season in a row! ASC is offering free admission to students, along with a shuttle to Linfield, for our last regular-season game this Saturday, Feb. 20.

The women’s game starts at 4 p.m. and the men’s game at 6 p.m. We will also be offering free pizza for students who ride and attend. The bus will be leaving at 3:30 p.m. Saturday from the Stevens Center lot. Only 50 spots available!

Know students who read the material, study the night before, yet struggle to perform on tests? Encourage them to attend a workshop tomorrow (Thursday), as Rick Muthiah, associate director of Learning Support Services, covers several strategies for improving performance on tests in an ARC-sponsored workshop, “How to Get A’s on All Your Tests (or at Least Become a Better Test Taker).”

The session runs from 10:50 to 11:35 a.m. in Lemmons 8.
