Have you been experiencing back pain or want to know what exercises or stretches evidence shows to decrease symptoms of back pain? “We’ve Got Your Back” is a free class on the prevention and management of back pain.

Li-Zandre van Eeden, PT, DPT, and the university’s School of Physical Therapy will sponsor the class, which will meet on Thursdays through April 21. Sessions are scheduled from 5 to 6 p.m. in Room 202 in the Roberts Center (501 N. Villa Road).

The Full-Time MBA Program is conducting a research survey and would appreciate your participation. The goal of this study is to better understand the criteria that influenced your decision-making process to join a program at the Portland Center.

The survey will be open for completion through Thursday, April 7.

We still have need of materials that can be gathered to help our friends at Catholic Charities in providing Welcome Home kits to refugees in the Portland area. These kits are given to refugees as a welcoming gift as they start their new lives here in the U.S.

There is a range from food items to small kitchen appliances. Please stop by the Social Work House (206 N. Meridian St.) to find out what items we are still in need of. We need all the items by Friday, April 1.

The IDEA Center is seeking Fox students to join our amazing team for next year. Internship positions are available in the areas of marketing, event planning, graphic design and employer relations. We will also be adding a career curriculum intern to support the IDEA Center’s new “Career Courses” piloting this fall!

As an intern in our office, you will develop a professional-level portfolio which includes project management experience, event execution, branding and marketing campaigns. There is also the opportunity to develop your professional network with the many employers and alumni who interface with IDEA Center programming.

These internships are now posted on Bruin Careers, with an application deadline of April 7. Your initial application will require you to submit your LinkedIn URL, and we recommend connecting with a Career Coach if your profile needs polishing.

Join us in kicking off the Newberg Relay for Life at George Fox! All students and staff are invited to learn more about the event and how they can become involved. Find us in Hoover 103 at 7 p.m. tomorrow night (Friday) for a short information session with speakers, prizes and cookies! See you there!

Relay for Life is a 24-hour event in which teams and participants take turns walking the track at Newberg High School to symbolize a person’s journey through cancer. Fundraising games and activities take place before and during the event. All proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society.

The university community is invited to attend a free lecture featuring William Schneidewind, author and professor of biblical studies at UCLA, on Thursday, April 7, at 7:30 p.m. in Hoover 105. The lecture title is “A Short History of the Word of God: Old Testament, Dead Sea Scrolls, New Testament, Early and Modern Church.”

Schneidewind serves as the chair of the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Cultures and holds the Kershaw Endowed Chair of Ancient Eastern Mediterranean Studies. He received a BA in religion from George Fox University (1984), an MA in historical geography from Jerusalem University College, and a PhD in Bible and Ancient Near East from Brandeis University (1992).

He has been a visiting scholar at the Hebrew University and a research fellow at the Albright Institute of Archaeological Research in Jerusalem. Schniedewind received George Fox’s 2013 Outstanding Alumnus Award. He is the author of five books, including How the Bible Became a Book, which has been translated into seven languages.

The William Penn Honors Program, College of Christian Studies and the George Fox Evangelical Seminary are sponsoring this lecture. Chapel credit is available.

Mahoney is the president and CEO of Conservation Visions Inc. A Newfoundland native, he holds both an honors and a masters of science degree in zoology from Memorial University of Newfoundland. Mahoney has more than 30 years experience working primarily as a scientist, wildlife manager, policy innovator and strategic advisor.

In addition, he is a filmmaker, writer, narrator, TV and radio personality, and lecturer – all within the scope of the greater conservation world, encompassing both the scientific and professional wildlife communities, as well as NGOs and the hunting and non-hunting public.
