Fitness Center Summer Hours
April 25th, 2016Summer hours for the Wheeler Fitness Center are as follows:
- Monday-Friday: 6 a.m. – 8 p.m.
- Saturday: 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.
- Closed Sundays
Summer hours for the Wheeler Fitness Center are as follows:
At the end of every school year many students have good reusable items that they do not want to take home over the summer, including blankets, clothing, kitchen supplies, small appliances, radios, room decorations, furniture, etc.
In an effort to keep the dumpsters from overflowing and to be better stewards of the resources, Phase II was initiated. We are happy to receive reusable items that students do not want to take home starting on April 22 and going through May 2 at 4 p.m.
The items gathered are sorted and made available to summer students and staff, with the remainder of the items being given to different organizations in the local area, such as Rescue Mission, Unwed Mothers Homes, Love Inc., and Goodwill.
Barrels will be placed in or near central living areas …
Please look for and use these barrels as you prepare to leave at the end of school.
There are large drop boxes for your trash located strategically on campus. By law, computers, monitors and TVs cannot go into the trash. They can be place beside the barrels. Please note if it is broken.
Questions? Contact Dwayne Astleford (dastlefo@georgefox.edu).
Have a great summer and may the Lord bless you as you go!
Phase II Committee
There is a correction to the finals week hours posted by Bon Appetit: The hours of operation for our final board meal of the semester on Saturday, April 30, will be 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Need a space to relax during finals week? Come tonight (Tuesday) at 9 p.m. to the Pavilion for an evening of community and worship around the fire as we celebrate this semester and this year.
There will not be chapel credit for this event, as it will be past the cutoff, but we hope to see you there and enjoy the space with you.
Students: As a rule, there are to be no cars left on campus during the summer months except for these categories: Juniors Abroad participants, May Serve participants and international students. All vehicles left on campus must have the keys left with security, along with a name and number of a local contact in case of incident.
George Fox is not responsible for any car left on campus and is not liable in case of damage or theft. Any car left on campus without first arranging with security and leaving the key with security is subject to tow. Please first try to find someone off campus to leave your vehicle with so it can be watched and turned on periodically to avoid a dead battery.
If a vehicle is left on campus, security will tell you where to park it once your key has been left with them, and there should be nothing left in your car to tempt potential thieves.
Questions? Out of the box situation? Contact security during business hours at 503-554-2090 or e-mail Nadine Kincaid at nkincaid@georgefox.edu.
Students: With the end of the school year, we are receiving lots of shipments and there are many visitors on campus. Please do not park in the staff lots, reserved staff spots, or the visitor rows. Continue to park only where you parking permit allows you to park.
Thank you,
Security Services
For those of us who were not at George Fox in 1965 when Heacock Commons and the current dining room was built, have you ever wondered what one of the first meals might have been? Have you ever thought how much lunch might have cost? Have you ever heard of the “Quaker Inn Cafe”? If the answer to any of these is yes, join us tomorrow (Wednesday) for our “1965 Throwback Lunch” and you’ll discover what you missed 51 years ago!
We’ve rented a juke box spinning ’60s platters and will be featuring favorites like chicken a la king, bologna and egg salad sandwiches, spaghetti and meatballs, fruit cocktail and much, much more – all for the throwback price of $1.25 for all staff, faculty and commuters.
Bring your appetite and we’ll see you in Klages on Wednesday between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Contact Denny Lawrence (dlawrence@georgefox.edu) or Lisa Miles (lmiles@georgefox.edu) if you have any questions.
We will be hosting our second and final candy buffet tomorrow (Wednesday) from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Bruin Den. We still have a wide variety of candy and will have boxes available for you to fill with your favorites for a low flat rate!
Drop by and see us anytime between 11 and 2. We look forward to seeing you and wish you well during finals week! The proceeds from this event will go toward financing a serve trip and Juniors Abroad trip for students Valentina Kucher and Courtney DuMond.
Contact Courtney (cdumond13@georgefox.edu) with any questions.
Join us for a going-away party to celebrate 19 years of faculty service by Debbie Berhó. This open-house-style reception is being held in Minthorn 200 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. today (Tuesday). Join us and wish Debbie well on her new venture!
Questions? Contact Penny Martin (pmartin@georgefox.edu).
It will be an exciting summer as we open the new dining hall, Canyon Commons! This facility will feature a large dining hall area (seating up to 555), three conference/meeting rooms (holding from 80 to 90 each that can also be combined to create a larger space), the president’s dining room (seating up to 20), and an espresso cafe (seating up to 60).
In May, construction will also begin on the remodeling of the former dining hall, servery, kitchen and Cap and Gown Room into space for the College of Engineering, which means that the Bruin Den and Bruin Bites will be impacted. Following are important dates to keep in mind in terms of meal service venues for the summer:
Thank you for your flexibility, patience and understanding as we transition to a new facility! Questions regarding food service can be directed to Denny Lawrence (dlawrenc@georgefox.edu), resident district manager with Bon Appetit Management Company, or Brad Lau (blau@georgefox.edu), vice president for student life.
Left in George Fox van #16 (we’re pretty sure): A red soft-sided case with jumper cables, flashers and first aid items. Have you seen it? If so, the women’s golf program would love to have it back. It has sentimental value. Please return to the main athletic office in Wheeler.
Thank you
Do you like free lunch? Are you a nice person? Do you like interacting with people? If any of these apply to you, we have a job for you!
Each year, the music department hosts the OSAA High School State Choir Competition, and we are currently needing volunteers to help keep the competition running smoothly. Jobs include door monitors, guides and assistants for some of the judges.
The competition is May 5-7, which is the Thursday, Friday and Saturday the week after graduation. Since it’s after school, this would be most ideal for students staying on campus for May Term or living nearby for the summer. Volunteers are needed all three days, and shifts go from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., from noon to 5 p.m., or all day.
Please contact Natalie Marquette at nmarquette12@georgefox.edu if you are interested!
We have made changes to the George Fox University budget and transaction reports in PeopleSoft. The report menu has changed and there are more reports to choose from. Please go here for more information about navigating the new report menu.
Questions? Please call Melodee Powers at ext. 2175.
Thanks,
The Finance Team
The music department would like to extend an invitation to the undergraduate student body to perform gospel music with the university choir in a few special chapel services next year.
If you are interested in participating, you would attend a few rehearsals in the fall 2016 semester. No prior gospel or choir experience required. If you are interested in this exciting opportunity, please contact Danielle Warner, director of choral activities, at dwarner@georgefox.edu before the end of this semester.
Is there someone at George Fox who has made a difference in your college experience? Someone who ignited a spark that made you want to learn more than you thought you could, someone who walked alongside you during a difficult season, or a person who has been a mentor?
Take a moment to write an email, e-card, or traditional “thank you†card to that professor, RA, tutor, supervisor, or other influential person. Try to be specific as you describe how this person has contributed to your life.
Students in Newberg can stop by the ARC or Bruin Den to pick up a blank card. Of course, one can make or buy one’s own card.
You are invited to attend the final all-employee lunch of the semester tomorrow (Tuesday) in the Cap and Gown Room. Lunch is available between 11:30 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. at a cost of $3. See you there!
Please join us this Friday, April 29, at 7 p.m. for the Baccalaureate Service of the 2016 graduating class. This service will be a time of worship and commissioning for our graduates.
Graduates, families, friends and employees are all warmly invited to be a part of this significant worship and commissioning service. The service will be held in Bauman Auditorium. Translation in Mandarin, Spanish and ASL will be provided. Attire is business casual.

Well-loved tennis balls, good for practice or your dog’s enjoyment, are available in Wheeler Sports Center office. Bring your own bag please.
With this school year coming to an end, ASC would love to hear from you and learn how it can better serve this campus next year. Your input matters!
Please take this quick, five-minute survey for a chance to win a $50 Amazon gift card! We will announce the two winners at the end of finals week and mail the cards to the lucky students.
