Tickets are still available to see internationally acclaimed pianist Valentina Lisitsa, who will perform for the university’s fourth annual Bösendorfer Artist Concert Series at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 25, in Bauman Auditorium.

The performance will feature all 24 of Chopin’s Etudes. Each university employee and student is entitled to one complimentary ticket. Additional tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for alumni and seniors, and $6 for students and children under 12. Lisitsa has toured throughout Europe, Japan, South America and North America. She has collaborated with the Sao Paulo Symphony, the Prague Chamber Orchestra, and the Chicago Symphony, and has performed with the likes of Lynn Harrell, Jimmy Lin, Roberto Diaz, Ida Haendel, and Hilary Hahn. Free tickets are available for the Portland Renovation and Remodeling Show scheduled March 12-14 at the Portland Coliseum. The event features hundreds of exhibits with home improvement experts available to show attendees what is new for building, remodeling, decorating and landscaping homes.

Come support one of the senior business capstone groups at the monthly Community Saturday Market scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Saturday, Feb. 27, in EHS.

There will be food, live music (including Chad Strutz from Just Lions and a local children’s violin group), and a wide variety of goods from local vendors. Participants will include authors Dirk Barram, Jim Foster and Erin Macy, as well as vendors Honest Chocolate and Yamhill Candles. A percentage of sales will go toward the Patrick Kibler Fund and the Women’s and Children’s Shelter of Newberg.

Oregon Symphony ushers are needed for the Saturday, March 13, performance in Bauman Auditorium. The concert will be led by conductor Carlos Kalmar and feature Vivienne Elborne and actor David Ogden Stiers of M*A*S*H fame. The program will feature classical music from composers Richard Strauss, Ralph V. Williams and Frederick Delius.

The all-employee meeting originally scheduled for next Thursday, Feb. 25, has been canceled. The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, March 18, from 3:40 to 5 p.m. in Hoover 105.

The university’s sixth annual Kaleo conference will be held Saturday, Feb. 20, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Bauman Auditorium. Our featured speakers are Chap Clark from Fuller Seminary and our own Steve Sherwood (Religious Studies). Their sessions will focus on how we can be equipped for ministering to teens who are hurt and isolated.

Wednesday is the last day to submit nominations for February Employee of the Month. Your e-mail should include the person’s name, job title, a concise but specific summary of this person’s contribution(s) to the university, its students, and/or its employees in the past 30 days or so (what was done, who was impacted, etc.), and any other information that you believe makes this person deserving of this award.

Please submit your nomination by Wednesday, Feb. 24. The President’s Executive Leadership Team will then select the Employee(s) of the Month from the nominations submitted. The winner(s) will be announced at the next all-employee meeting and will receive a $100 gift certificate to The Allison.

In May 2009, Chang and a team of George Fox students worked with at-risk young girls living on a landfill in Nicaragua. She will speak of this experience and her ongoing work with the in-country organization.

A Faculty Teaching Forum, entitled “Helping all students be successful,” will be presented from noon to 1:20 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, in Cap and Gown Room A. Joel Perez (Dean of Transitions and Inclusion) will present information on helping faculty think through how they can design their classes and how they interact with their students to assist all students in being successful.

Due to the President’s Day holiday Monday, Feb. 15, the U.S. Postal Service will be closed that day. No incoming or outgoing mail will be processed that day, and anything received for off-campus mailing will be postmarked and mailed on Tuesday.

There is still time to register for the seminary’s Ministry in Contemporary Culture Seminar, “Technomadic: Mapping our way in an unbounded world,” scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon (with optional roundtable lunch at noon) on Tuesday, Feb. 16, in Room 155 at the Portland Center.

Guest Joseph R. Myers, an entrepreneur, speaker and author, will speak on such topics as “Technomadic landscape: Locating ourselves in the human story,” “Preparing ourselves for the new relationship era,” and “Spiritual wisdom for the technomadic age.”

Myers is the owner of FrontPorch, a consulting firm that helps churches, businesses and other organizations promote and develop community. Author of The Search to Belong and Organic Community, Myers is also a founding partner of the communications arts group settingPace, based in Cincinnati, Ohio.

The cost is $20 for employees, alumni or students. The optional lunch is $10 per person. Registrations are transferable, but not refundable.

George Fox Evangelical Seminary will host Rev. Joshua Kang for a speaking engagement and book-signing session from 2 to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 17, at the Portland Center.

Rev. Kang, former pastor of the 7,000-member Oriental Mission Church in Los Angeles and the author or more than 30 books, will speak about his new book, Scripture by Heart, and be available to sign copies of his Scripture by Heart and Deep Rooted in Christ afterward. Both book titles will be available at a 50 percent discount courtesy of publisher IVP. The event is free, and an English translator will be provided for his presentation.

Rev. Kang’s combined Korean titles have sold more than 1.5 million copies worldwide.
