Faculty Sharing session scheduled Friday in Hoover 105

Faculty Sharing will take place from 10:40 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 4, in Hoover 105. Faculty Sharing provides a time and a place for faculty members to share their ideas and opinions. Friday’s discussion will follow up on some of the topics, such as faculty review procedures or faculty governance, that the provost raised at Faculty Retreat.

Food will be served.

Regional sites closed on Labor Day, Sept. 7

Request for August time sheets and time-off reports

If you have not already done so, please submit your August time sheet (support staff) or time-off report (administrators) this week. Please be sure it is complete, accurate and signed by both you and your supervisor before sending it to HR at Box 6108. Be sure to include your cost center and ID numbers. You can find your Employee ID number in MyGFU and/or on your pay statement.

If your supervisor is not available to sign your time sheet by Friday, Sept. 4, please send a copy to HR and keep the original until it has been signed.

Portland Center hosts biblical entrepreneurship discussion, course

The Portland Center will host a one-hour session on biblical entrepreneurship from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 4. It will include a 30-minute presentation by Wende Jones, a BE-certified teacher, a panel discussion, and an audience Q&A with the panel.

The event will serve as an introduction to a three-day intensive course on how to apply foundational biblical principles to basic business concepts. The course, Biblical Entrepreneurship 1 (BE 1), will be hosted at the Portland Center Thursday through Saturday, Sept. 17-19. Sessions will be from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.

Online registration is available, and more information is posted on the course flier and website. Those who register by Sept. 4 receive a $25 discount.

Also, you are invited to hear about biblical entrepreneurship directly from course founder Patrice Tsague on Wednesday, Sept. 16, when he speaks at the monthly Northwest Christian Chamber of Commerce lunch meeting from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Hayden’s Lakefront Grill, 8187 S.W. Tualatin-Sherwood Road, in Tualatin.

Library seeks to create book display of what employees are reading

Students are interested in what those who instruct and advise them are reading. They want to know the authors and ideas impacting those employed at George Fox.

The university library would like to create a display of such books accompanied by the name of the employee and a couple of sentences about the impact of the book on the employee’s life. The library will find a vetted synopsis of the book and include that in the display as well. Please consider submitting a title along with your thoughts for this display. An online submission form is available, and forms also may be picked up at the reference desk. The deadline for submission is Sept. 30.

Stationery orders due by Sept. 7

It’s time to order university stationery. For detailed order instructions, go to the university communications website.

Elizabeth Holme (Print Services) will work with the Office of Marketing Communications in ordering general university (i.e. non-departmental stationery) letterhead and envelopes. You will continue to purchase all non-departmental stationery (including “second-sheet letterhead”) through her.

Orders are due by Monday, Sept. 7.

Call for name tag orders

Marketing Communications is collecting orders for name tags. For those who have regular face-to-face contact with the public and need to order a name tag, you may now submit and view your name tag requests. Provide the name of the person for whom the name tag is needed; title or department; and the budget to be charged. Examples of title or department include: Dean of Students/Student Life and Admissions Counselor/Admissions. The next order will be placed Tuesday, Sept. 15.

Fall all-community meeting scheduled Friday, Aug. 21

All university employees are requested to attend an all-community meeting scheduled from 8 to 11 a.m. this Friday, Aug. 21.

Activities will begin at 8 a.m. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony in the campus quad to commemorate the recent Klages Dining Hall remodeling project. A breakfast buffet in the dining room will follow. At 9 a.m., the all-community meeting will begin with worship in Bauman Auditorium.

For those at the university’s regional sites, the meeting will be available for viewing at stream.georgefox.edu/live/commmtg.sdp. For best results, use Mozilla Firefox for your web browser, and your computer must have QuickTime Player installed. Simply copy the link into the address bar of your browser. Library closed on August 19

Community invited to PeopleSoft ‘Catch the Wave’ closing event Aug. 12

You are invited to attend the closing event for the PeopleSoft “Catch the Wave” project. We have completed the initial phase of the project as an institution and want to take time together to pause and celebrate our success. There are still more PeopleSoft tasks ahead, but we want to recognize everyone’s effort and hard work. Members of Oracle PeopleSoft and MIS consulting will be joining us.

Please join us from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12, in Hoover 105.

Newberg campus wireless access points will change names as part of upgrade

IT has begun a multiphase wireless upgrade over the next few years. On Tuesday, Aug. 11, the Newberg campus wireless access points will change names. The reconfiguration of the wireless devices will take several hours and will begin at 7 a.m. The current wireless access points names GFU-NEWBERG will be replaced with FOXWIFI. You will no longer need a WEP key to connect; rather, you can sign in using your university login. Specific instructions will be sent to your mailbox early next week.

This will not impact the other campuses at this time.
