There’s good news and bad news: The Zumba exercise class will be offered this fall at George Fox, but only in the morning and not in the afternoon. Sessions begin Tuesday, Oct. 18, and run through Thursday, Dec. 15, in Wheeler 211 or the gym (if more space is required).
Classes will meet from 6 to 7 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays (with no Thanksgiving class). The cost is $3 per session, and you pay as you go. Sessions are expected to fill up.
If anyone knows of an instructor willing to head up an afternoon class, let Patty Findley know. There is also the option of conducting a class with video.
For those of you disappointed by the fact no afternoon Zumba class is offered, Chehalem Park and Recreation (503-537-2909) offers the following classes at $5 per class: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9:30-10:30 a.m. (Armory Building on Morton Street), and Mondays and Wednesdays, 6-7 p.m. (Community Center on Second and Howard streets).

George Fox Evangelical Seminary will host a free screening of the film Dirty Business: ‘Clean Coal’ and the Battle for Our Energy Future from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, in Room 155 of the Portland Center.
The 90-minute feature documentary investigates the true cost of our dependence on coal for electricity in the age of climate change. The film, produced by the Center for Investigative Reporting, addresses questions such as: “Can coal ever really be made ‘clean’?†“If we were to try to wean ourselves off coal, how would we keep the lights on?†and “Is renewable energy ready for prime time?â€
And, ultimately, “Can we rethink the way we produce and consume energy – and summon the political will to do it – in time to avert environmental disaster?†Guided by Rolling Stone reporter Jeff Goodell, Dirty Business seeks answers in a series of stories shot in West Virginia, Nevada, Kansas, New York, Saskatchewan and China.
The screening is being hosted in conjunction with the seminary’s Christian earthkeeping program. Questions? Contact Dan Brunner at ext. 6160 or dbrunner@georgefox.edu.

Think of a time you received meaningful recognition for your work at George Fox. How was recognition given or appreciation expressed? How would you like a supervisor, chair, or administrator to show appreciation for your work at George Fox?
To respond to these questions, go to a two-item survey on the Employee Council site or e-mail employeecouncil@georgefox.edu. We will encourage supervisors, chairs, and others to give recognition to employees in ways that you have suggested. The site also allows you to see meeting minutes, make a proposal, or learn more about the Employee Council.
E-mail employeecouncil@georgefox.edu if you have questions or comments.
