Info on formal way to register complaints

Wednesday, January 7th, 2015

While most student concerns and complaints can and should be resolved informally, there is a formal general complaint procedure described in the “Support for Students” section of the Undergraduate Student Handbook as well as on the Graduate/DPS Policies page of the website.

Please note that these procedures cover complaints of a general nature and do not supersede specific policies involving special cases such as grade appeals, sexual harassment, etc., which are covered elsewhere in the Student Handbook, Catalog or Graduate/DPS Policies.

Some FoxTALE start-of-semester reminders

Wednesday, January 7th, 2015

Use your new, empty 2015 Spring sites as the sites in which you will teach. You may import content from another course site. See the instructions here for importing.

2015 Spring sites are currently hidden from student view. When you are ready, you can share the sites with your students. Here is a quick guide on how to make the courses available: FoxTALE Making Courses Visible to Students.

Remember that all students enrolled in your class in MyGFU will automatically be enrolled in your FoxTALE course site. As students add and drop your course in MyGFU, they will be added or removed automatically from your FoxTALE site

If your course site is set to Weekly format, your course might show incorrect dates. To change the dates, go to Administration> Edit settings on the course home page. Scroll down to the course start date, and change it to the first day of your 2015 Spring course. Scroll to the bottom of the page and “Save changes.”

Visit our FoxTALE for Faculty website for guides and resources. IT offers Faculty Development Events throughout the term that introduce university systems and how to use them. We offer both face-to-face meetings and webinars. Here is the link to the Spring 2015 list of events.

Register for MLK Day of Service this week

Sunday, January 4th, 2015

On Monday, Jan. 19, George Fox students, staff and faculty will, for the sixth straight year, join with more than 1,000 students from Portland-area colleges and universities to commemorate the life, ideals and ministry of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a “day on” of voluntary service and reflection.

The MLK Day of Service is a collaborative effort of Portland-area universities and colleges facilitated by the Oregon Campus Compact, and we are always proud of how well George Fox is represented each year at this event. Annually, it is the largest mobilization of college students in the country to serve on MLK Day!

Volunteers will gather at Concordia University and serve in the Cully neighborhood of northeast Portland. Transportation from George Fox will be provided.

This year’s theme is “Healthy Schools, Thriving Communities.” In order to receive a free T-shirt and participate in this day of serving activities you must register at this link before Jan. 9, 2015.

Faculty: Textbook orders needed

Thursday, December 18th, 2014

In order to get books here in time for spring classes, textbook orders need to be placed before Christmas. Please complete this task before taking time off for the holidays. We will make every effort to get books here in time. Please try to keep cancellations to a minimum since most books are already ordered or have arrived, and may not be returnable.

You can verify your book order in iGFU by selecting the course schedule, then your department/course/section. A textbook icon will be shown in the course header if an order has been submitted; click to see the books.

Thanks for your help. Please email any questions or concerns to Sandy Gidding, textbook manager, at sgidding@georgefox.edu.

New library system in place starting tomorrow

Tuesday, December 16th, 2014

Tomorrow (Thursday, Dec. 18), George Fox University libraries will transition to a new library system. We are in the fourth and final group as the 37-member Orbis Cascade Alliance transitions from stand-alone library systems to one shared library system.

The new system will improve the research experience for our students and faculty and allow us to better manage our resources. However, please be aware that there will be some bumps along the way as we make this migration. As one example, Summit Borrowing will be routed through interlibrary loan (a slower process) until Jan. 20. More information can be found at this link.
