As part of the university’s 125th anniversary celebration, special guest Peter Kreeft, PhD, a professor of philosophy from Boston College, will speak in Bauman Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. tonight (Friday). The title of his presentation is “Lewis & Tolkien: Christian Faith in a Postmodern World.”
Kreeft is the author of 75 books as well as a popular writer of Christian philosophy, theology and apologetics. His books include Handbook of Christian Apologetics, Christianity for Modern Pagans and Fundamentals of the Faith. Admission is free, and seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Create a space in your home or office to be a “war room” for prayer. Pray throughout this challenge as much as possible in that space. Pray for your coworkers, your friends, your family, the lost, the stolen, the broken, the sick, the church, the next generation, this generation and the government.

Two of the university’s buildings have undergone name changes this spring, with Coffin Residence Hall and Gulley House being renamed Gulley Residence Hall and Hiebert House, respectively.
Gulley Hall is named in honor of Emmett W. Gulley, president of then-Pacific College from 1941 to 1948. The name change continues a trend of key campus residence halls being named in honor of former presidents (Brandt Hall, Le Shana Hall, Pennington Hall, etc.).
In conjunction with the new residence hall name, the Gulley House will now be known as Hiebert House, in honor of Roy Hiebert, affectionately known as “Grandpa Roy” on campus for four decades. He died in 2016 at the age of 92.
The music of Schubert, Schumann, Beethoven and Gershwin will fill Bauman Auditorium when Soheil Nasseri, an internationally renowned pianist, performs for the university’s 11th annual Bösendorfer Concert Series at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow (Thursday).
All employees and students are entitled to one free ticket. Additional tickets are $12 for general admission, $8 for seniors and alumni, and $6 for students and children under 12. All tickets are reserved seating and are available at this link or at the University Box Office by calling 503-554-3844.
Nasseri has performed at some of the most prestigious concert halls in the world, including Berlin’s Philharmonie and Konzerthaus, London’s Purcell Room at the Southbank Centre, Tokyo’s Musashino Center, Théâtre Fémina in Bordeaux, Florence’s Teatro Comunale, St. Petersburg’s Philharmonia, and Palermo, Italy’s Teatro Politeama.
He will perform four pieces: Schubert’s Sonata in A Minor, D 784, Schumann’s, Carnaval, Op. 9, Beethoven’s Sonata No. 7 in D Major, Op. 10 No. 3, and Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue.

Annual Open Enrollment: Feb. 14 – March 6
During open enrollment, benefit-eligible employees can make changes to benefits without a “change in status†reason. Changes made during Open Enrollment will take effect April 1, 2017.
The changes to the plans are very minimal, with The Pioneer Health Trust/Regence, Kaiser, Allegiance FSA, Lifemap, and Aflac all being offered again this year.
Whether or not you make any changes to your benefit elections, you need to complete the “Open Enrollment Election Form.†This is an electronic form that will be delivered to your George Fox email on Feb. 14, 2017. If you decide to add coverage or make any changes to your current coverage, you will need to complete the appropriate enrollment forms (available on the HR website) and return them to HR at Box 6108 by end of day Monday, March 6.

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has issued a new I-9 form that MUST be used starting Jan. 22. It has been published on the HR web page here, so please always use the current form, or download it and DELETE your old form. If you have printed forms for new employees/students, please recycle those and print the new ones.
The primary change is that the new form is easier to complete online, but you must still print it, and provide an original signature. By law, we cannot accept faxed forms in HR. There are no changes to the acceptable documents.

The William Penn Honors Program invites you to hear Peter Iver Kaufman speak on “Leadership and the Humanities” on Thursday, March 9, at 7:30 p.m. in Hoover 105.
Kaufman is a professor at the University of Richmond in the Jepson School of Leadership Studies and professor emeritus at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill’s history and religious studies departments. He teaches a wide range of leadership courses.
