Call for stationery orders

Wednesday, March 1st, 2017

Please plan now for the institution-wide stationery order taken at the end of August. The collective order helps keep costs low – the higher the volume, the lower the cost. Consequently, it is most economical to overestimate needs and store a small surplus.

I will be accepting orders from now through Thursday, Aug. 18, when orders are due.

For order instructions, go to the marketing communications website. Continue to purchase all non-departmental stationery (including “second-sheet letterhead”) through the university’s print services.

Please contact me if you have any questions.

Thank you,
Danette Newkirk (dnewkirk@georgefox.edu)

Come hear Craig Johnson speak on leadership March 7

Tuesday, February 28th, 2017

All are invited to the 2017 Spring Faculty Lecture on Tuesday, March 7, featuring Craig Johnson, professor emeritus of leadership studies and recipient of the 2015-16 Faculty Achievement Award for Graduate Research & Scholarship.

Craig’s lecture, “A Walk on the Shadow Side of Leadership,” will begin at 6 p.m. in Hoover 105. Following is a synopsis:

“We will focus on the power leaders have to cast light or shadow over followers. They must take special care, ‘lest the act of leadership create more harm than good.’ Refusing to face the dark side of leadership makes abuse more likely. Exploring the destructive dimension of leadership highlights the ethical challenges facing leaders and equips us to illumine rather than darken the lives of others.”

Come early and enjoy the 2017 Spring Richter Student Scholars Symposium! It is scheduled from 5 to 6 p.m. in the Hoover lobby. George Fox student scholars, from both undergraduate and graduate programs, will present their research in a conversational poster format.

The event is sponsored by the Faculty Development Committee. Refreshments will be served.

Bridge Café offers ‘Make Your Own Salad’ deal

Tuesday, February 28th, 2017

The Bridge Café, in the Canyon Commons, is offering a “Make Your Own Salad” deal. Pick up your large salad box for $6.50 per box and take it into the Café to make your own salad. Remember to add the 25 points to your “Wellness Challenge” weekly total for replacing one meal with a salad.

This week’s weekly challenge …

Use this link to sign up for a BOD POD reading and collect 250 points for yourself. This is a one-time-only offer; offer ends when the challenge ends.

Important Details

  • The BOD POD is located in the back hallway, downstairs in the Wheeler Center.
  • Women: Women will need to be in spandex or Lycra shorts (above the knee) and spandex or Lycra sports bra. Neither can have padding and both must be form fitting. Also, there must be at least two hours since working out.
  • Men: Men will need to wear spandex shorts, no top. Spandex shorts cannot have padding and must be form fitting. Also, there must be at least two hours since working out.

What is a BOD POD? The BOD POD is an Air Displacement Plethysmograph (ADP) that determines body composition (fat vs. lean). Similar in principle to underwater weighing, the BOD POD measures body mass (weight) using a very precise scale, and volume by sitting inside the BOD POD.
